Job description

The L2 Commvault Engineer is responsible for the administration, monitoring, troubleshooting, and maintenance of enterprise backup and recovery environments using Commvault. The role ensures successful execution of backup operations, recovery requests, data protection compliance, and timely resolution of incidents while supporting business continuity and disaster recovery requirements. Key Responsibilities Backup Operations Management Monitor daily backup jobs and ensure successful completion of scheduled backups. Investigate and resolve backup failures, alerts, and performance issues. Perform backup, restore, and recovery operations for files, folders, databases, and virtual machines. Validate backup success rates and maintain backup health across the environment. Support backup policy creation, modification, and optimization. Commvault Administration Administer Commvault CommServe, Media Agents, and Client Agents. Perform service health checks and readiness validation. Monitor storage utilization, retention policies, and deduplication environments. Support Commvault software patching, updates, and maintenance activities. Manage backup schedules, storage policies, and media management. Incident & Problem Management Troubleshoot backup failures, network connectivity issues, and restore-related incidents. Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) for recurring backup issues. Coordinate with server, database, application, storage, and network teams for issue resolution. Ensure adherence to SLA and operational procedures. Participate in Major Incident and Problem Management activities. Recovery & Disaster Recovery Support Perform file-level, server-level, database-level, and VM-level restoration activities. Support disaster recovery testing and backup validation exercises. Verify recoverability of critical business data. Ensure backup compliance with organizational data protection standards. Monitoring & Reporting Monitor backup infrastructure using Commvault Command Center and CommCell Console. Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly backup operation reports. Maintain operational documentation, SOPs, and knowledge articles. Proactively identify risks impacting backup success rates and recovery objectives. Skill Requirements Commvault Backup & Recovery Administration. Backup Monitoring and Alert Management. Backup Failure Analysis and Troubleshooting. File, VM, and Database Restore Operations. Windows and Linux Server Fundamentals. Storage, Deduplication, and Retention Concepts. ITIL Incident, Change, and Problem Management. ServiceNow or similar ITSM tools. Other Requirements Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills. Attention to detail and data protection focus. Effective stakeholder communication.
