Role Purpose / Summary The Global Business Process Owner (BPO) Director for Trade Compliance is accountable for the design, standardization, and continuous advancement of MedTech's system-enabled global trade processes, with Global Trade Services (GTS) and SAP S/4HANA at the core. The role owns the end-to-end business process for trade compliance and drives the deployment of GTS Edition for HANA (E4H) and adjacent capabilities that reduce compliance risk through automation, real-time screening, and end-to-end audit traceability. Operating at the intersection of compliance, supply chain, and digital transformation, the BPO translates regulatory and trade control requirements into standardized, scalable processes, and ensures GTS paired with SAP S/4 capabilities enables the Global Trade Controls Standards within scope, while phasing out fragmented stand-alone tools and legacy GTS instances. The role is pivotal to achieving the future state of Global Trade Controls and Operations in alignment with the MedTech digital capability roadmap. Tasks & Responsibilities Business Process Standardization & System-Enabled Capability Advancement Own end-to-end trade compliance business processes in accordance with the Global Trade Controls Standards, including Restricted Party Screening, Export and Import License Management, Product Classification (HS & ECN), Embargo Screening, and Free Trade Agreement (FTA) qualification. Reduce process variation by implementing standardized policies, practices, Performance Metrics, RACI, and a Governance Model for the critical trade capabilities enabled via GTS, SAP S/4 and adjacent Systems & Technologies. Lead the advancement and upgrade of GTS to the latest supported version (E4H / Edition 4 for HANA), de-risking the TranSCend roadmap and migrating MedTech's multiple GTS versions and clients toward a single, scalable global instance. Champion automation of compliance checks through GTS–SAP S/4 integration, enabling real-time screening, embargo, license, and classification controls with automated transactional blocks for non-compliant transactions. Oversee the consolidation and retirement of fragmented GTS instances across legacy ERPs and the phase-out of stand-alone trade tools. Prioritize and advance proposed GTS capability upgrades across OTC and MAKE, including eliminating manual trade content updates from external suppliers, enabling FTA functionality, and replacing manual export control and trade sanctions solutions. Shape the roadmap for emerging and evaluation-stage capabilities such as customs broker EDI/API, US export electronic self-filing, regulatory license screening, supplier declarations, shipper letters of instruction, and special customs procedures (FTZ, inward processing, bonded warehouses etc.). Organizational Design & Operating Model Definition Define the future-state organizational design required to deploy, execute, and sustain the new trade compliance capabilities across global, regional, and site-level operations. Establish clear decision rights, accountabilities, and hand-offs across Global Trade Controls, Global Trade & Transport Operations, regional Deliver trade teams, JJT, and TranSCend delivery teams. Design scalable roles, responsibilities, RACI, governance forums, and escalation pathways to support compliant and consistent execution of system-enabled trade controls. Ensure capability adoption by aligning people, process, data, and technology requirements with the Trade Operating Model and the MedTech TranSCend deployment roadmap. Compliance, Controls & Governance Reduce compliance risk through automated, real-time due diligence for MedTech export/import shipments, minimizing the risk of unauthorized shipments. Establish consistent audit traceability and controlled system access to support internal and external audits, with real-time worklists, reporting, and operational metrics. Ensure alignment with evolving export controls and trade sanctions regulations, leveraging the GTS two-year release cycle and service packs to keep solutions current. Capability Roadmap, Deployment & Master Data Align GTS and SAP S/4 trade capability deployment with the MedTech TranSCend timeline across ~50 sites spanning EMEA, NA, APAC, and LATAM, and the Supply Chain Segments. Sponsor and complete the FTA Proof of Concept and, upon success, scale multiple FTA implementations across applicable sites and product flows. Define master data enablement requirements such as Country of Origin, costed bill of materials, classification codes, and Long-Term Supplier Declarations — partnering with applicable functions across the MT Supply Chain to close gaps. Identify capabilities that must be solutioned outside GTS (e.g. Country of Origin, export invoices/customs valuation, customs declarations recordkeeping) and ensure they are addressed with the right systems and tools. Required Skills / Candidate Profile Subject Matter Expertise Deep knowledge of global trade compliance: restricted/sanctioned party screening, export and import license management, embargo screening, product classification (HS & ECN), and Free Trade Agreement qualification and certification. Strong understanding of global trade controls standards, customs procedures, duty reduction programs, and the regulatory landscape governing export/import in a multinational MedTech environment. Familiarity with special customs procedures (FTZ, inward processing, bonded warehouses), customs valuation, and country-of-origin determination. Systems Knowledge & Technical Acumen Hands-on experience with SAP GTS ideally including GTS E4H and its integration with SAP S/4HANA master and transactional data. Understanding of compliance automation, real-time screening/blocking, and reporting/analytics for trade operations. Exposure to customs broker EDI/API enablement, electronic self-filing, and document management for trade recordkeeping. Proven business process ownership credentials designing, standardizing, and governing E2E processes, including installation of RACI, Performance KPI’s and Governance.
