Core Responsibilities As a Software Engineer focused on Kubernetes Platform Engineering, you will contribute to the development, automation, and operation of enterprise Kubernetes platforms. You will work on platform services, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), developer enablement capabilities, and cloud-native solutions that improve reliability, scalability, and operational efficiency. Design, develop, test, and maintain software solutions supporting platform services and operational workflows. Develop REST APIs, automation services, integrations, and reusable platform components. Write clean, efficient, maintainable, and well-tested code using modern software engineering practices. Follow SDLC best practices, code review processes, and CI/CD methodologies. Contribute to the design and implementation of distributed and microservice-based solutions. Develop and enhance services running on Kubernetes and OpenShift platforms. Build and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions for platform provisioning and lifecycle management. Implement platform automation to improve reliability, scalability, security, and operational efficiency. Support containerized workloads and troubleshoot platform-related issues. Participate in platform operations, incident management, on-call support, and customer engagements. Contribute to platform observability, monitoring, and operational excellence initiatives. Collaborate on intelligent automation and AIOps initiatives across the Kubernetes platform. Contribute to integrations involving AI-powered operational tooling and developer productivity solutions. Explore emerging technologies such as LLMs, AI agents, and automation frameworks to enhance platform capabilities. Assist in evaluating and implementing AI-enabled solutions where applicable. Minimum Qualifications / Requirements 2-4 years of software engineering experience. Strong proficiency in Golang and/or Python. Experience developing software applications, APIs, or backend services. Hands-on experience with Kubernetes and containerized environments. Familiarity with OpenShift or similar enterprise Kubernetes platforms. Experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and container technologies such as Docker or Podman. Understanding of Infrastructure as Code concepts and automation practices. Strong debugging, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills for operations management and support. Experience working in Agile development environments. Preferred Qualifications / Requirements Understanding of Kubernetes architecture and core components. Experience with Deployments, Services, Ingress, ConfigMaps, Secrets, RBAC, and Operators. Familiarity with Kubernetes networking, storage, and security concepts. Exposure to monitoring, logging, and observability platforms. Strong understanding of object-oriented design and SOLID principles. Experience building microservices and distributed systems. Familiarity with automated testing frameworks and software quality practices. Knowledge of API design and integration patterns. Exposure to automation frameworks and operational tooling. Familiarity with AI-assisted operations, observability analytics, or intelligent automation concepts. Basic understanding of Large Language Models (LLMs), Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), AI agents, or vector databases. Why Cisco?
