The Position Enterprise Architect The Principal Enterprise Architect provides essential architectural oversight, visionary leadership, and strategic guidance across a broad Cross-Domain context. In this highly impactful role, you will take on the most complex, cross-functional topics that span multiple business and technology areas. A significant focus of your mandate will be architecting "RDT as a Business" (Informatics Domain), treating our internal Roche Digital Technology organization as a critical business line. Your scope will also encompass other overarching enterprise initiatives across and beyond RDT. You will guide others in resolving highly complex issues and problems that have widespread implications on cross-functional organizational processes and outcomes. Description of the area The Strategy, Portfolio & Governance (SPG) Enterprise Architecture function shapes, aligns, and executes technology strategy by connecting business ambition to investment, architecture, and delivery. For this specific role, a primary domain is Informatics (RDT scope), alongside other complex cross-enterprise domains. You will partner closely with operational leaders, the Transformation Office, RDT Excellence, and Portfolio Management to establish a modern, integrated operating model. This area ensures that operations are built on insight generation and adhere to industry standards (e.g., IT4IT, ITIL), establishing robust architecture support for strategic internal and cross-functional initiatives. Job Responsibilities Architecting the North Star for "RDT as a Business": Define target-state architectures and capability models for RDT's internal operations. Take ownership of defining and evolving the RDT Application and Technology Landscape and Data Model, ensuring robust architecture support for strategic internal initiatives. Operating Model optimization: Actively support the evolution of the Operating Model and integrating its elements (eg. Strategy, Portfolio, Delivery, Operations). Shift the organization toward Data-Driven Portfolio Management and Agile, AI enabled Delivery and Operations, ensuring connection to our existing IT landscape assets and providing traceability. Architecture Governance & Standards ("Enable & Govern"): Lead architecture governance for Informatics Domain and drive cross-domain alignment across Information, Technology, Business, and Application Architecture. Provide clarity, "paved roads," and guardrails that enable speed and effectiveness in delivery rather than creating bureaucratic friction. Tackling Complex Cross-Functional Topics: Guide matrixed teams in resolving the most complex cross-functional issues with broad implications on organizational processes and outcomes. Act as the architectural lead for major cross-domain initiatives that span beyond a single function, ensuring cohesive target architectures across the enterprise. Cross-Domain Coherence & Technical Debt Management: Conduct rigorous architectural impact assessments for cross-domain initiatives. Actively manage technical debt and support Future State Architecture by systematically simplifying the application landscape, decommissioning redundant systems, and establishing governance to prevent future complexity. Data-Driven Transparency: Promote the philosophy that the value of architecture is measured by better decisions and delivery outcomes. Leverage our integrated architecture toolchain (ArchiMEDES) to provide critical architectural insights for the RDT Leadership Team and Domain leads. Qualifications Education / Experience Bachelor’s or Master’s degree with 7-10+ years of experience providing architectural oversight and strategic guidance within a complex, matrixed Cross-Domain context. Experience guiding others in resolving highly complex cross-functional issues and defining architecture and governance aligned with enterprise stakeholder needs. Proven track record acting as a recognized leader in the architecture community, defining target architectures aligned with business objectives and technology strategies. Functional & Technical Skills Complex Problem Solving: Applies excellent knowledge in two or more domain or technology areas to lead technical discussions, capability assessments, and resolve highly complex cross-functional challenges. IT Operating Models: Deep expertise in architecture frameworks (e.g., TOGAF) and industry-standard IT operating models, specifically IT4IT and ITIL. Enterprise Toolchains: Strong practical experience defining data models and architectures for enterprise Service Management and Architecture tools (e.g., ServiceNow, SAP LeanIX/ArchiMEDES). Landscape Analysis: Strong capability to define and roll out the PACE Layering classification framework, conduct value stream mapping, and execute classification mapping (maturity, functional & technical fit). Additional Qualifications Network & Community Leadership: Demonstrated ability in leading and influencing federated networks of architects without direct reporting lines, inspiring diverse partners to act with a unified voice. Strategic Advisory & Executive Influence: Deeply connects with and understands internal business needs, successfully gathering support for new concepts. You can communicate complex architectural ideas and influence senior-level stakeholders to adopt new approaches. Enterprise Mindset: A commitment to the "One Roche" philosophy, prioritizing the success of the entire organization over individual functional silos, and fostering an inclusive, high-performing culture.
