The Manager, Environmental Health, Safety & Sustainability (EHSS) is responsible for leading the implementation, oversight, and continuous improvement of EHSS programs to ensure compliance with Bristol Myers Squibb Global EHSS Standards and all applicable local, state, and national regulations. This role provides strategic direction, technical leadership, and operational support across assigned functions, including Research & Development, engineering, maintenance, and site operations. The Manager partners cross-functionally to drive a strong EHSS culture, ensure regulatory readiness, and support safe, sustainable business operations. The position ensures effective integration of EHSS systems, standards, and practices into site operations, enabling proactive risk management, environmental stewardship, and protection of employees, facilities, and surrounding communities. The purpose of this position is to work with the site EHS team to provide BMS Seattle Research and Early Development and CTDO sites with Environmental, Health and Safety support to ensure worker safety, environmental stewardship, regulatory compliance, and adherence to BMS Global Standards. Key Responsibilities: Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of EHSS programs, policies, and systems to align with corporate standards and regulatory requirements. Provide technical leadership and oversight across environmental, health, and safety programs, including industrial hygiene, ergonomics, emergency response, and environmental compliance. Partner with Research & Development, engineering, and facilities teams to embed EHSS requirements into operations, maintenance, utilities, and capital projects. Ensure regulatory compliance and maintain inspection readiness; serve as a key liaison with external regulatory agencies and internal stakeholders. Lead and support EHSS audits, inspections, and self-assessments, including preparation, execution, and closure of corrective and preventive actions. Drive a proactive safety culture by modeling best practices, supporting safety initiatives, and engaging employees and leadership at all levels. Manage incident reporting, investigation, and root cause analysis processes, ensuring timely implementation of corrective actions and regulatory reporting. Provide EHSS guidance for site activities, including chemical approvals, risk assessments, and hazard mitigation, with authority to stop work when necessary to prevent harm. Oversee EHSS systems and platforms used for inspections, compliance tracking, and reporting, ensuring data accuracy and audit readiness. Support EHSS governance processes, including site committees, tiered operational meetings, and leadership forums. Ensure delivery of EHSS training programs, including onboarding and ongoing compliance training, and promote employee awareness of EHSS responsibilities. Provide EHSS support for facility projects, change management processes, and operational readiness initiatives. Drive continuous improvement by identifying and implementing enhancements to EHSS programs, systems, and workflows. Collaborate with regional and global EHSS teams to align site activities with corporate directives and share best practices. Qualifications & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Occupational Health, Engineering, or a related scientific discipline required. Minimum 5+ years of progressively responsible EHSS experience in a regulated environment such as biotechnology, pharmaceutical, laboratory or manufacturing operations. Strong working knowledge of applicable EHSS regulations and standards across federal, state, and local jurisdictions. Demonstrated experience implementing and managing EHSS programs, compliance systems, and audit processes. Proven ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and influence stakeholders across multiple levels of the organization. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and risk management capabilities. Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and drive results in a dynamic environment. High attention to detail and commitment to maintaining robust, compliant EHSS programs. Professional certifications (e.g., CSP, CIH, CHMM) preferred. Compensation Overview: Seattle - WA: $105,298 - $127,596 The starting compensation range(s) for this role are listed above for a full-time employee (FTE) basis. Additional incentive cash and stock opportunities (based on eligibility) may be available. The starting pay rate takes into account characteristics of the job, such as required skills, where the job is performed, the employee’s work schedule, job-related knowledge, and experience.
