This Position reports to: R&D Team Manager Your role and responsibilities In this role, you will be working as R&D Software Engineer and will be part of Automation Business Area for Energy Industries division based in Bangalore, India. You will be reporting to R&D Team Lead and will be responsible for contributing significantly to successful project results in technology, software, product or solution development as well as associated IP by identifying, proposing, and implementing innovative solutions. Using unique technical knowledge to oversee development tasks. Acting as the first line contact in R&D/SW development/Product engineering for the specific product related issues and maintenance. The work model for the role is: Hybrid You will be mainly accountable for: Working as an independent and reliable contributor in R&D projects with limited supervision. Leveraging AI-assisted development tools, coding assistants, and agentic AI solutions to improve software engineering productivity Performing various tasks in the assigned area from building concepts, gathering requirements to designing, implementing, integrating, testing, technology transfer or maintenance, and operations. Understanding and applying applicable processes, standards, guidelines, and requirements, including architectural and design constraints. Driving the achievement of assigned targets (quality, time, scope, cost) and raising and addressing risks. Design, develop, configure, and maintain software solutions. Develop and customize HMI displays, graphics, dashboards, alarms, trends, and reports. Develop and troubleshoot communication interfaces with PLCs, RTUs, Flow Computers, and third-party systems. Configure and support industrial communication protocols such as OPC, Modbus, IEC-104, and DNP3. Design and optimize real-time databases, historian systems, and data integrations. Support system commissioning, Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), and customer deployments. Perform root cause analysis on software, communication, and system performance issues. Collaborate with Product Management, Architects, Test Engineers, and Domain Experts to deliver high-quality software solutions. Contribute to product enhancements, cybersecurity improvements, and performance optimization initiatives Qualifications for the roleBachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, or equivalent. 5 to 10 years of hands-on experience in R&D or Software development roles within industrial automation. Strong proficiency in C++, .NET Core, C#, ASP.NET Web APIs, and Entity Framework. Experience with Angular, TypeScript, ReactJS, and modern web development frameworks. Familiarity with SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and NoSQL databases. Understanding of relational database concepts. Experience with real-time databases and historian systems and troubleshooting database performance issues Basic understanding of Azure/AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD concepts Strong understanding of SCADA architecture, HMI, historian, alarms, events, and data acquisition. Strong object-oriented design and debugging skills. Experience developing enterprise software applications Understanding protocols but not limited to OPC DA/UA, Modbus TCP/IP, IEC 60870-5-104, DNP3, TCP/IP networking fundamentals. Windows Server administration, ODBC/DSN configuration, Application deployment and troubleshooting. Knowledge of industrial cybersecurity and IEC 62443 principles Experience leveraging AI-assisted development tools, coding assistants, and agentic AI solutions to improve software engineering productivity. Exposure to modern DevOps practices, automated testing, and release management processes. Knowledge of process control concepts in various industries (e.g., Oil & Gas, Chemicals, Pharmaceuticals). Knowledge of cloud-hosted industrial solutions and digitalization platforms Experience with redundant architectures, failover systems, and disaster recovery solutions. Highly organized, self-motivated, and capable of working independently as an individual contributor. Strong problem-solving skills with an innovative and open-minded approach. Excellent communication skills, fluent in English (written and verbal), with the ability to articulate complex technical ideas clearly.
