This role is part of Alcon's Commercial & General Management function, a team that oversees the company's commercial strategies to ensure operational efficiency and support strategic decision making as we transform the eye care industry. The Director, Corporate Strategy & Business Development (Professional Path), is primarily responsible for identifying and developing strategies for acquisitions, licenses, partnerships, and alliances. You will drive comprehensive analysis on opportunities, support strategic projects in new areas, and assist leadership in aligning the organization with strategic goals. Specifics include:Support development of overall corporate development strategy to increase pipeline value via acquisitions, business development and licensing, and partnership and alliances. In this role, a typical day will include: • Support BD&L priority area definition across franchises (Surgical, Vision Care & Pharma), including scoping and executing landscape work (jointly with Search & Evaluation and the Franchises), assessing unmet medical need, opportunity sizing, identifying high level product requirements, etc. • Drive business growth by supporting the evaluation and recommendation of externally sourced product/business opportunities, including: o Developing opportunity and competitive landscape scans o Articulating strategic rationale, including “fit” in Alcon portfolio, role in future standard of care, etc. o Developing early technical perspectives on technologies (in collaboration with S&E, and with input from R&D colleagues) o Conducting commercial assessments, including working with 3rd parties to conduct market, epidemiology and/or payer research o Developing business cases and financial analyses, including valuation, P&Ls, cash flow analyses, sensitivity analyses, and other relevant financial metrics o Leading cross-functional teams to assess opportunities (technical & commercial), including leading due diligence on investment opportunities o Obtain feedback from project sponsors and key stakeholders, and ensure alignment o Working with potential partner companies to increase understanding of and scope opportunities o Identifying risks, mitigation and options to implement • Present external opportunities to Alcon leaders in various internal settings When needed, may be involved in deal negotiation, risk mitigation, and execution to implement approved opportunities, while supporting internal processes to get approval and finalize these deals • Prepare and develop high quality presentations for internal (e.g., Alcon Deal Committee, Board of Directors) and external use (e.g., industry conferences) • Represent Alcon and participate in external industry associations, alliances, and partnership for market development WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO ALCON: A strong mix of scientific and financial competences is required for this role • Scientific background: MSc or PhD in a relevant field (e.g., engineering, biology, physics, etc.) or a medical degree (e.g., OD, MD). MBA is a plus • Significant knowledge of the pharmaceutical and/or medical device (surgical) industry, preferably in both fields.
