This position reports to: Production Supervisor __ Your role and responsibilities (Mandatory) COLD FORM OPERATOR - TRAINEE Summary: Operates and sets up the Cold Form Cell which includes the Asahi, The Wash Tank, and Annealing Ovens, where extremely high level of fixture changes or set-ups occur. Sets up, operates, and performs specialized tasks such as loading programs, assembling and disassembling tooling in the Asahi. Operates under minimal or no supervision in this specialized process area. Must demonstrate a Safety 1st mentality, and the quality, service, and productivity consistently meet corporate expectations. Trainee position includes learning all technical skill necessary listed below. Trainee will be evaluated during training period to confirm fit and capabilities to meet the final job expectations. Training period will last 6 to 9 months based on progression of learning. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Sets up, operates and performs minor maintenance of all craft area equipment. Has advanced manufacturing/quality knowledge. Uses own judgement to adjust and/or set-up a machine/manufacturing process producing a quality part in a safe and timely manner. Responsible for training and/or monitoring other operators at floor management direction. Possesses highest level of flexibility, skill and experience operating a variety of machines and or manufacturing processes. Works effectively as a member of a work team and communicates effectively across functions. Cross-trains and assists co-workers in cross training. Performs specialized work tasks per work instructions and/or blueprints. Reviews work instructions and blueprints to determine job specifications, machine adjustments, tooling and material requirements. May have to plan, improvise or independently determine methods for ensuring high degree of customer satisfaction. Responsiveness to internal/external customers is at the highest operating level. Sets jobs as laid out by the Cold form Tech or Team Lead. Works at highest safety focused level. Documents work using manufacturing system. May have to update documentation or drawings and interface between quality, shop and engineering. Assists in troubleshooting or troubleshoots problems in work area systems, processes, or machines. Ensures wastes are disposed of properly and that scrap is minimized. May be required to train operators on any specialized work area equipment and secondary operations. Uses dial calipers, snap gauges, micrometers and additional measurement tools as required. Performs machine maintenance such as oiling machines, dies, or work pieces per work instructions. Stacks, marks, packs, and transports finished work pieces. Ability to work overtime as scheduled. Other duties may be assigned. Maintains a high level of housekeeping. Qualifications: Specialized work area equipment or process experience on cold forming (extrusion) equipment or company product and secondary equipment or processes. Manual dexterity and mechanically inclined. Capable of training co-workers. Able to follow quality plans and work instructions. Uses a variety of common machine tools and gauges, calipers, etc. Reads blueprints. Education and/or Experience: High school graduate or GED required. Requires 2 years minimum experience in machine operating or related manufacturing processes. Requires 2 years minimum experience using hand tools such as, sockets, wrenches and torque wrenches and the ability to read dial calipers and micrometers is a plus. Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedures. Ability to write simple correspondence. Mathematical Skills: Ability to perform mathematical functions using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, and make appropriate adjustments. Ability to interpret more extensive technical instructions in diagram form and deal with more abstract and concrete variables. Physical Demands: Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls and reach with hands and arms. The employee is required to stand, walk, sit, communicate and occasionally to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must be able to lift up to 35 pounds. Visual abilities required may include close vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Work Environment: The employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts, works in an unconditioned air environment, and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The work may involve non-toxic and/or toxic fumes, chemicals, airborne particles, vibration and heat. The noise level in the work environment may frequently be loud and hearing protection may be required based on the work area and noise level.
