THE ROLE: Join a team at the forefront of data center and AI infrastructure design, where you will play a critical role in shaping highly available, mission-critical environments that power today's most demanding technologies. As a Data Center Facility Design Engineer , you will collaborate with electrical, mechanical, network, operations, and construction teams to design, deploy, and optimize world-class data center facilities and AI cluster environments. This role offers the opportunity to influence the full lifecycle of data center infrastructure—from initial design and construction through commissioning, deployment, operations, and continuous improvement. You will work with cutting-edge power and networking technologies, help define facility standards and deployment methodologies, and drive operational excellence across complex infrastructure environments. Key characteristics include: Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting capabilities Excellent communication and technical documentation skills Ability to work effectively across multiple disciplines and teams A proactive, results-oriented mindset Commitment to quality, safety, and operational excellence Comfort working in dynamic, mission-critical environments Ability to balance strategic planning with hands-on execution KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Core Responsibilities Power & Electrical Infrastructure Design, implement, and optimize data center power distribution systems, including UPS systems, PDUs, switchgear, generators, and grounding infrastructure. Develop and validate redundancy models to support high-availability environments. Partner with design consultants and contractors to review electrical designs, load studies, and commissioning plans. Network Infrastructure Support integration of physical network infrastructure, including switches, structured cabling systems, patch panels, and fiber/copper connectivity. Collaborate with network engineering teams on facility layout standards and cable management strategies. Troubleshoot and resolve infrastructure-related networking issues. Construction & Commissioning Support data center construction projects from design review through commissioning and operational turnover. Coordinate activities among electrical, mechanical, and low-voltage contractors. Ensure compliance with applicable safety, regulatory, and industry standards. Deployment Operations & Logistics Develop standards and guidelines for rack installation, power provisioning, structured cabling, and equipment lifecycle management. Support deployment activities, facility walkthroughs, and operational incident response efforts. Maintain engineering documentation, including MOPs, SOPs, EOPs, facility drawings, and deployment standards. Partner with operations teams to conduct root cause analyses and implement reliability improvements. Prepare functional specifications, design verification plans, and test procedures. PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: Experience designing and supporting data center power distribution systems and electrical redundancy architectures. Knowledge of high-availability facility designs, including N, N+1, and 2N configurations. Experience with network switches, structured cabling systems, fiber and copper infrastructure, and cable management best practices. Background supporting data center construction projects, commissioning activities, and contractor/vendor coordination. Familiarity with facility operations, maintenance programs, and infrastructure lifecycle management. Experience collaborating across electrical, mechanical, networking, and IT operations disciplines. Understanding of Tier II–IV data center design concepts and operational best practices. Knowledge of ASHRAE recommendations, Uptime Institute methodologies, and applicable electrical and mechanical standards. Experience supporting large-scale data center, cloud, HPC, or AI infrastructure deployments. Ability to develop technical specifications, engineering standards, testing procedures, and operational documentation. ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related discipline preferred. Professional engineering licensure desired. Data center certifications such as CDCP, CDCS, or similar credentials preferred. Project management certifications such as PMP desired. BICSI or related structured cabling certifications preferred.
