Job description

DescriptionJoin us as we pursue our innovative vision to make machine data accessible, usable, and valuable to everyone. We are a company filled with passionate people who seek to deliver the best experience for our customers. At Splunk, we are committed to our work, our customers, having fun, and most meaningfully, to each other's success. Are you passionate about improving engineering quality at scale? Would you like to help shape the standards, data, and integration surfaces that allow engineering teams to make better decisions about testing, reliability, and release readiness? If this resonates with you, we would love to speak with you. Our Quality Interfaces team is part of the Control Loop organization and focuses on the software development lifecycle across Splunk. The team builds the standards, quality signals, and integration frameworks that help Splunk engineering teams understand their quality posture and act on it. Our customers are internal engineering teams, repository owners, engineering managers, and platform partners who rely on clear and consistent quality data to improve engineering outcomes. We are responsible for establishing common quality data collection patterns, defining a quality maturity model, improving visibility into engineering quality KPIs, and advancing standards for areas such as API contract coverage, test coverage, pipeline health, flake reduction, and linting compliance. We work across teams to make quality data visible, comparable, and actionable so that organizations can improve their software delivery with common evidence rather than anecdote. We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to lead the design and development of services, data flows, integration patterns, and internal engineering experiences that power this vision. This role requires strong software engineering fundamentals, hands-on backend development skills, and the ability to operate effectively in ambiguous, cross-team environments. The ideal candidate brings experience building internal platforms or developer-facing systems, enjoys partnering across organizations, and can translate broad quality goals into practical technical solutions that teams can adopt. This is a senior individual contributor role with meaningful technical leadership expectations. You will help shape architecture, influence standards, drive adoption across teams, and raise the engineering bar through strong design, implementation, and operational excellence. RoleParticipate in the complete software development cycle: understand requirements, design, develop, test, automate, deploy, and operate software. Design and build backend services, data pipelines, and integration surfaces that collect, normalize, and expose engineering quality signals across repositories and teams. Contribute to internal applications and engineering interfaces that help teams explore, understand, and act on quality data. Define and evolve scalable technical approaches for quality data collection, KPI computation, maturity modeling, and service-to-service integrations. Partner with engineering teams, repository owners, and platform teams to onboard quality signals and improve adoption of common standards. Drive technical decisions in ambiguous problem spaces and break down broad organizational goals into concrete engineering deliverables. Contribute to and lead design reviews, architecture discussions, and code reviews across the team and with partner organizations. Improve the maintainability, diagnosability, and operability of the systems owned by the team. Identify and resolve pre-production bottlenecks, data quality issues, and production incidents. Contribute to frameworks and standards related to contract testing, test coverage, linting, and other engineering quality signals. Mentor other engineers through technical leadership, design guidance, and strong engineering practices. Participate in rotating on-call duties to diagnose and resolve service and integration issues when needed. RequirementsStrong fundamentals in software engineering, including data structures, algorithms, distributed systems, and system design. Strong coding expertise in Python or Golang. Experience building backend services, APIs, or internal platforms used by other engineering teams. Experience with both Python and Golang is a plus. Experience with backend frameworks and service development patterns. Experience with data processing, metrics pipelines, or systems that aggregate and normalize data from multiple sources. Some frontend or full-stack experience is desirable, especially for building internal applications or quality-visibility interfaces. Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP. Experience designing integrations across CI/CD systems, source control systems, testing systems, or related engineering infrastructure. Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills, including the use of associated observability and diagnostic tools. Experience developing automated tests, CI/CD workflows, and production-ready operational practices. Ability to write clear technical documentation, design proposals, and operational guidance for broad internal adoption. Strong communication and collaboration skills, especially in cross-team and cross-functional environments. Ability to lead through influence, align multiple stakeholders, and drive adoption of shared technical standards. Experience with API contract testing, quality measurement systems, or software delivery metrics is highly desirable. Experience working on developer productivity, SDLC, or engineering quality initiatives is a strong advantage. What We OfferA team of highly capable and dedicated peers across engineering, product management, and platform organizations. The opportunity to work on meaningful internal systems that improve engineering quality and software delivery across Splunk. A collaborative and supportive environment where technical rigor, pragmatic execution, and cross-team partnership matter. The chance to shape shared engineering standards, influence how quality is measured, and drive improvements at organizational scale. Balance. We want you to be successful outside of work too. We trust our colleagues to be responsible with their time and commitment, and believe that balance helps cultivate a positive environment. Fun. We are committed to having every employee want to give it their all, be respectful, be part of the team, and have a smile on their face while doing it. Why Cisco?
