Position Summary We are seeking for Staff Engineer – Systems Design at Thermo Fisher Scientific, where you'll contribute to innovation in scientific instrumentation and solutions. You'll guide the development of sophisticated systems while working with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality products that enable our customers to make breakthrough discoveries. In this role, you will act as a technical lead for system and subsystem initiatives, driving cross-functional problem solving, supporting system architecture, and ensuring product performance, reliability, and cost competitiveness. You will play a key role in VAVE programs, while contributing to the development of local capabilities that will expand into future product development ownership. Responsibilities Act as a technical lead for system or subsystem initiatives, working across mechanical and electrical sub systems. Contribute to system architecture, requirements definition, and interface specifications. Drive product cost analysis, teardown benchmarking, and Value Analysis / Value Engineering (VAVE) initiatives independently and create a strong pipeline Provide leadership, supervision & coordination for project management, and design activities for the VAVE team. Work on system architecture, component selection, and integration of electron optics, vacuum systems, detectors, stages, and control systems. Drive innovation in product features, performance improvements, and next-generation platform development. Ensure designs meet performance, regulatory, and quality standards. Support product validation, testing, and certification activities Drive standardization, modularization, and platform reuse strategies. Apply structured engineering methodologies (e.g., DFMEA, DOE, RCA) to improve system robustness Track and deliver measurable cost savings and productivity improvements. Collaborate with global R&D, manufacturing, supply chain, quality, service, and product management teams. Identify the process gaps, build & establish standard work, and PPI system for continuous improvement & effective execution Mentor junior engineers and strengthen system engineering capabilities across the organization Required Qualifications Bachelor’s / Master’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Instrumentation, or related field 12+ years of experience on design and development or sustenance or cost optimization of high-end scientific instrumentation products preferably. Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams and implementing collaborative solutions within project schedules Expert knowledge of systems engineering methodologies, requirements management, and model-based systems engineering (MBSE) Proven experience in VAVE / cost optimization initiatives. Knowledge of DFMEA, DFx, Six Sigma, or reliability engineering methods. Familiarity with regulatory and compliance requirements for scientific instrumentation. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and root cause analysis skills. Experience with engineering tools, CAD systems, and PLM processes. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
