The Position The Engineer Operations – NPI defines factory and service requirements for new products and leads manufacturing readiness activities throughout the New Product Introduction process. The position contributes to product and process improvements after release and provides technical engineering support to Manufacturing and Supply Chain during product stabilization and early production. The NPI Engineer understands the importance of customer satisfaction and succeeds through dedication, enthusiasm, cooperation, technical expertise and effective collaboration with Manufacturing, R&D, Quality, Supply Chain, Service and other cross-functional teams within Thermo Fisher Scientific. Key responsibilities include, but are not exclusively: Working in compliance with legislation, IMS and company procedures. Work on New Product Introduction (NPI) projects from concept through release according to PMP, MDP or other applicable processes. The NPI Engineer is responsible for completing all deliverables assigned to NPI Engineering. Collecting and defining manufacturing, service and operational requirements for new products. Develop and maintain manufacturing documentation, work instructions, test procedures and engineering documentation required for successful product introduction. Set up and coordinate training of Manufacturing, Sustaining Products and Service personnel in new product build, test, installation and repair procedures. Support Manufacturing during pilot builds, first production builds and product ramp-up to ensure smooth transfer into volume production. Provide technical support to Manufacturing and Supply Chain during product stabilization, ensuring high product quality and on-time delivery. Perform technical troubleshooting and root cause analysis of product. Support engineering changes (ECOs) and implement product or process improvements required to improve manufacturability, quality or serviceability. Design or support development of manufacturing tools, fixtures and test equipment as required. Support supplier qualification activities, component evaluation and manufacturing readiness in cooperation with Supply Chain and Sourcing. Support Factory and Field Service engineers during first builds, installations, upgrades and escalations of newly introduced systems. Perform hands-on assembly, testing, verification and troubleshooting activities as required during project execution. Provide technical input for ongoing training of Manufacturing and Service personnel. General deliverables: Facilitate and may lead cross-functional improvement and Operations projects from inception to completion. Act as technical advisor to peers and project teams to resolve technical issues and meet project schedules. Develop close relationships with Manufacturing, Logistics, Sourcing, Sustaining Products Engineering, Service, PLM, Quality and R&D to resolve technical conflicts effectively. Ensure all activities are carried out according to the principle of "Customer focus in all that we do." Adhere to work safety, fire safety, hygiene and all applicable regulatory standards. Execute activities according to applicable quality and compliance procedures. Other duties as assigned. Requirements: University degree in a technical discipline, or a combination of education and experience that demonstrates the required skills Willingness to work in high-tech industry manufacturing environment Must demonstrate ability to create technical documentation and engineering reports using common Microsoft Office and Acrobat applications Demonstrated ability to plan and resolve issues that involve gaining cooperation of cross-functional, multi-cultural groups and sites without damaging relationships. Must be able to work for extended period in clean room environment Must have ability to obtain a valid passport and travel regionally and internationally as required (up to 25% of working time) Fluent in English and local language (verbal and in writing) Must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills NPI Specific Requirements: Relevant technical experience in manufacturing, development, service or operations engineering environment. Demonstrated experience participating in or leading technical projects, preferably New Product Introduction or manufacturing transfer projects Senior knowledge in a specialized technical field Experience with technical troubleshooting, root cause analysis and structured problem-solving methodologies (e.g. 7-Step Problem Solving, 8D, Six Sigma, statistical methods) is preferred. Demonstrated ability to provide clear and concise analysis of data and experimental methods that may involve multiple factors Self-starter who is also highly productive when not supervised and capable of balancing multiple priorities. Ability to provide technical leadership and support during product introduction and manufacturing stabilization. Strong customer focus with commitment to product quality, manufacturability and continuous improvement.
