Role Overview We are looking for a Senior Engineer, Data Streaming Platform to build, optimize, and scale our enterprise data streaming capabilities across Confluent Cloud-Kafka, Databricks Structured Streaming, Delta Live Tables (DLT), and connectors across various data sources and targets. This is a hands-on platform engineering role where you'll evaluate new features, develop reusable components, drive cost and performance optimizations, build automation, and explore AI-assisted productivity improvements. You'll partner closely with engineers, architects, stakeholders, and vendor support to deliver scalable, reliable, and standards-based solutions. While data streaming is the primary focus, you'll work within a broader ecosystem that includes platforms like dbt, Airflow, and other data integration and compute tools. Adaptability and willingness to learn across technologies are essential. What will you do in this role Design, build, and maintain streaming platform capabilities across Confluent Cloud Kafka and Databricks Build and support connectors and integrations across multiple data sources and targets Evaluate new platform features and perform POCs/prototypes Drive cost optimization and right-sizing initiatives Develop automation, reusable components, and accelerators Identify and apply AI-assisted productivity improvements to engineering workflows Integrate streaming capabilities with other platforms in the ecosystem Partner with stakeholders to understand requirements and provide technical guidance Collaborate with architects, vendor support, and peer engineers Lead and mentor engineers through design discussions and implementation guidance Adhere to and promote engineering standards and best practices What should you have Primary Skill:Confluent Cloud Kafka | Databricks Structured Streaming | Delta Live Tables Strong platform engineering or data platform engineering experience Deep experience with Confluent Cloud Kafka or similar event streaming platforms Experience with Databricks Structured Streaming and/or Delta Live Tables (DLT) Proficiency in Python Experience with CI/CD, GitHub Actions, and Terraform Strong understanding of AWS concepts and services Solid understanding of general networking concepts Experience developing reusable components, accelerators, and automation tooling Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills General knowledge of data integration and compute platforms Preferred Skills Experience with dbt, Airflow, or other data integration ecosystem tools Experience with streaming connectors, schema evolution, and event-driven architectures Platform scaling, workload tuning, and observability for streaming systems Familiarity with testing automation tools such as Xray and Robot Framework Familiarity with AI agent development or AI-enabled engineering workflows Experience engaging with enterprise vendors and support organizations Experience mentoring engineers or guiding technical design decisions Soft Skills Clear and effective communicator across technical and non-technical audiences Ability to lead engineers and guide design solutions Strong stakeholder management and relationship building Comfortable engaging with architects and vendor support teams Ownership mindset with accountability for outcomes Commitment to standards, best practices, and engineering quality Adaptable, curious, and eager to learn new platforms Strong analytical thinking and structured problem solving Who we are We are known as Merck & Co., Inc., Rahway, New Jersey, USA in the United States and Canada and MSD everywhere else.
