Job Description SummaryThe Lead Production Team Leader (Lead PTL) is responsible for leading daily manufacturing operations to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality production. This role oversees frontline production teams, drives operational excellence, supports continuous improvement initiatives, and partners with cross-functional teams to meet business objectives. The Lead PTL is accountable for production performance, people leadership, quality, cost, delivery, and compliance while fostering a culture of Lean and continuous improvement. Job DescriptionRoles and Responsibilities Lead and manage frontline production teams to achieve daily production, quality, safety, and delivery targets. Foster a disciplined shop floor culture and maintain a safe, productive, and collaborative work environment. Build positive employee relations and engage team members through coaching, mentoring, and performance management. Collaborate with Quality, Engineering, Supply Chain, Maintenance, EHS, and other cross-functional teams to resolve production issues and improve operational performance. Monitor and report key manufacturing metrics including productivity, labor utilization, throughput, inventory accuracy, work order completion, quality, and customer complaints. Drive Lean manufacturing initiatives including Kaizen, visual management, waste elimination, standard work, and continuous improvement projects. Lead quality improvement initiatives to ensure compliance with established quality standards and drive root cause analysis and corrective actions. Lead cross-functional improvement projects focused on productivity, process optimization, quality enhancement, and cost reduction. Support capacity planning, manpower planning, and resource allocation to meet production requirements. Develop and execute workforce training plans to enhance team capability and operational effectiveness. Ensure compliance with Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS), quality, and regulatory requirements. Drive manufacturing layout improvements to optimize material flow, ergonomics, and space utilization. Coach and develop Production Team Leaders (PTLs), Graduate Engineer Trainees (GETs), junior engineers, and frontline associates. Support hiring, onboarding, and succession planning to maintain appropriate staffing levels. Manage operational costs within the functional area while supporting business profitability objectives. Required QualificationsBachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, or a related engineering discipline. 11+ years of manufacturing or production experience in a shop floor environment. Demonstrated experience leading frontline manufacturing teams. Strong hands-on experience with Lean Manufacturing methodologies and continuous improvement. Proven experience driving quality improvement initiatives and manufacturing quality systems. Demonstrated project leadership experience, including leading cross-functional operational improvement projects. Strong knowledge of production planning, manufacturing operations, safety, and quality standards. Excellent people leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Desired CharacteristicsExperience in a regulated manufacturing environment (medical device, healthcare, automotive, aerospace, or similar). Strong analytical and data-driven decision-making skills. Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management abilities. Self-motivated with the ability to prioritize multiple initiatives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Experience implementing productivity, cost reduction, and process optimization initiatives. Passion for coaching, mentoring, and developing high-performing teams.
