DESCRIPTION: We are seeking a Process Engineer - Mechanical to lead the development, optimization, and scaling of manufacturing processes for precision mechanical and electro-mechanical assemblies across Thermo Fisher Scientific's external manufacturing network. This role is focused on supplier industrialization, mechanical manufacturing process excellence, equipment standardization, Bill of Equipment (BOE) development, yield improvement, and cost optimization for complex instrumentation and manufacturing platforms. The position will operate with a high degree of ownership across product transfers, supplier readiness, and sustained operational performance. Key Responsibilities Lead the design, development, and optimization of mechanical manufacturing processes to improve quality, yield, throughput, and scalability Drive manufacturing readiness for precision mechanical assemblies, electro-mechanical integration, machining, fabrication, assembly, test, and supplier production processes Develop and maintain Bill of Equipment (BOE) standards, equipment templates, tooling requirements, and supplier capability expectations Partner with R&D, Manufacturing Engineering, and Contract Manufacturers to influence DFM and DFA decisions during product transfers and new product introductions Lead mechanical industrialization activities including process development, equipment selection, qualification support, pilot builds, and production ramp-up Perform process capability studies, tolerance analysis, measurement system reviews, and manufacturing risk assessments Conduct supplier capability assessments for mechanical processes, equipment maturity, capacity constraints, and operational risks Develop and standardize mechanical process documentation, work instructions, equipment standards, and best practices Lead root cause analysis and corrective action for mechanical manufacturing, equipment, and assembly-related issues Drive cost reduction initiatives through process optimization, cycle time improvement, equipment standardization, and waste elimination Collaborate with suppliers and supply chain teams to improve manufacturability, material flow, tooling readiness, and supplier performance Support compliance with quality systems, engineering change control, and manufacturing documentation governance requirements Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree with 8+ years of experience or Master's degree with 6+ years of experience in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical discipline Experience in mechanical process engineering, manufacturing engineering, supplier engineering, equipment engineering, or industrialization Preferred Qualifications Strong experience in mechanical process engineering within high-tech, precision, instrumentation, life sciences, or regulated manufacturing environments Knowledge of manufacturing processes including CNC machining, sheet metal fabrication, casting, molding, precision assembly, fixturing, tooling, and electro-mechanical integration Experience supporting complex products such as analytical instruments, imaging systems, spectroscopy platforms, radiation detection devices, automation systems, or electron microscopy instrumentation Proficiency in GD&T, metrology, tolerance stack-up analysis, process capability, and precision engineering standards Experience leading NPI, technology transfer, process validation, equipment qualification, and production scale-up activities Strong background in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement frameworks Experience with CAD, ERP, PLM, MES, document management, or manufacturing execution systems Demonstrated ability to work with Contract Manufacturers and suppliers to improve technical capability and operational performance Strong analytical and problem-solving capability with a structured, data-driven approach Effective communication, documentation, and stakeholder influence skills in a global environment Key Competencies Strong process ownership with focus on scalability and robustness Mechanical manufacturing expertise and technical depth Continuous improvement mindset with execution discipline Data-driven decision-making and structured problem-solving Cross-functional collaboration and supplier engagement Attention to detail with commitment to quality and reliability Accountability for measurable operational outcomes
