ABB is looking for a Senior R&D Engineer – Simulation Specialist for our Coast Guard & Navy business line. As a Senior R&D Engineer, you will become part of a small, multidisciplinary team dedicated to solving some of the most complex challenges in the marine industry. We develop electrical propulsion, power, and automation systems that meet strict electrical and mechanical requirements. This includes the design of modular enclosures, mounting solutions, and liquid- and air-cooled systems. Location: Fornebu or Ulsteinvik Reporting to: Product Manager Your main responsibilities Lead and develop structural simulations and analyses, including but not limited to static and dynamic analysis such as shock, modal, random vibration, short circuit, fatigue, etc. Perform verification and validation of simulation methods by correlating analysis results with real test data to ensure prediction accuracy. Drive effective design improvement plans to enhance product structural performance and reliability in harsh conditions. Identify potential risks at an early stage of the design process, challenge existing technical solutions, and influence final designs through performance and strength assessments. Support sales and project execution related to shock and vibration standards, including technical discussions with suppliers and customers. We believe that you are/have This role requires: MSc or PhD in Mechanical Engineering or a similar field. Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering, structural dynamics, and FEA/CFD simulation methods and tools. Creative problem-solving skills combined with strong analytical and critical thinking abilities. A solution-focused mindset and strong communication skills. A collaborative and service-minded approach, both internally and towards customers. Fluent written and spoken English.
