This position reports to: R&D Team Lead __ The work model for the role is hybrid #LI-Hybrid Key responsibilities In this role, you will be responsible for the design adaptation of onboard power converters for railway applications at ABB Traction. At our Center of Competence for Auxiliary Power Systems, we play a key role in the design and development of onboard power converters and associated electronic components for locomotives, high-speed trains, trams, buses, and much more. This role is contributing to the Business Area Motion - Traction in Berlin. The primary stakeholders are external customers. You will be mainly accountable for: Adaptation of the design of auxiliary power converters for railway applications due to obsolete components, conducting problem and interface analyses, and creating and coordinating design specifications Specification of replacement components according to customer specifications and product requirements with support from the procurement department in sourcing (electronic components, inductive components, heat sinks, fans, power supplies) Adaptation of electrical interfaces to the inverter subsystems and collaboration with software developers in adapting the control software Electrical and thermal design including circuit simulation in Matlab/Simulink (Design to Cost, Design for Manufacturing/Maintenance, RAMS) as well as active support of design implementation Participation in product re-validation, conducting electrical and thermal tests in the laboratory and on the vehicle, as well as type approval testing of the inverter in the Power Lab Commissioning in the laboratory and in the target vehicle environment, as well as adaptation of development-accompanying documentation and preliminary work for training materials Support of the technical sales team with obsolescence-related customer inquiries You will join a motivated team where you can develop yourself further.
