The Test Engineering Technician supports the day-to-day operations of the Test Engineering Assembly Lab. This role is responsible for building, upgrading, moving, testing, troubleshooting, and shipping test equipment and machines. The technician will work closely with Engineering and Operations teams to ensure test systems are assembled, maintained, and documented to the highest quality standards. The ideal candidate is hands-on, detail-oriented, and experienced in electro-mechanical assembly, electrical troubleshooting, and technical documentation. Key Responsibilities Assemble electro-mechanical systems and test fixtures according to assembly drawings, schematics, and work instructions. Build, upgrade, modify, and repair test equipment and automated test machines. Troubleshoot and repair electro-mechanical assemblies, electrical systems, and test fixtures. Build and modify cables, wire harnesses, and electrical assemblies for test equipment. Perform testing, debugging, and validation of test systems before deployment. Maintain and update Bills of Materials (BOMs), electrical schematics, assembly instructions, and troubleshooting procedures. Track fixture changes, upgrades, retrofits, and equipment relocations. Support shipping and logistics activities related to test equipment. Submit inventory requisitions and participate in inventory cycle counts. Participate in daily stand-up meetings and collaborate with cross-functional teams. Support inspection activities using Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs) and other precision measurement equipment. Assist Operations, Engineering, and Manufacturing teams as needed. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or equivalent technical training/certification. 2–5 years of experience as an Electro-Mechanical Technician, Test Technician, or related role. Ability to lift and move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Strong hands-on experience building, testing, and troubleshooting AC/DC electrical circuits. Experience reading and interpreting electrical schematics and mechanical assembly drawings. Proficiency using hand and power tools. Experience working in an electronics or engineering lab environment. Experience with electronic test equipment, including: Digital Multimeters (DMM) Oscilloscopes Logic Analyzers Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Excellent organizational and documentation skills. Preferred Qualifications Proficiency with SolidWorks. Experience operating machine shop equipment, including: Table saws Friction saws Miter saws Band saws Grinders Knee mills Experience troubleshooting printed circuit boards (PCBs). Experience with SAP requisitions and inventory processes. Experience with 3D printers and additive manufacturing technologies. Experience supporting manufacturing, test engineering, or production environments. Cognex believes in fair and equitable pay. A reasonable estimate of the hourly pay range for this role is $20 USD - $28/h USD. Please note that actual salaries may vary within the range, or be above or below the range, based on factors including, but not limited to, education, training, experience, professional achievement, business need, and location. In addition to base salary, employees will participate in either an annual bonus plan based on company and individual performance, or a sales incentive plan.
