The Opportunity This is a contract role based in Bogotá, Colombia, within the Data Protection & Governance team and reporting to the Data Access Governance Operations Lead. We are seeking a detail oriented and proactive analyst to support our data protection initiatives, focusing on data classification and securing unstructured data in File Shares and SharePoint. This role is critical to ensuring sensitive data is properly identified, classified, and protected, while driving continuous improvements in data governance practices. You will help operationalize governance principles through tooling, analysis, and collaboration by applying technical expertise and strong analytical skills to safeguard enterprise data assets. What You'll Do Operate and maintain data classification tools to identify and tag sensitive information across enterprise systems. Analyze and secure unstructured data in File Shares and SharePoint, ensuring appropriate access controls and protection mechanisms. Collaborate with internal stakeholders to align classification efforts with business and compliance requirements. Monitor data access and classification coverage; generate audit-ready reports for compliance reviews. Identify and recommend improvements to data protection processes, tooling, and governance practices. Use advanced Excel techniques to analyze and present data insights. Required Qualifications 2+ years of experience in data access governance, information security, or IT governance roles. Hands-on experience with data classification tools (e.g., Microsoft Purview, Varonis, Symantec DLP). Familiarity with securing unstructured data in File Shares and SharePoint environments. Understanding of access control models, permissions auditing, and data governance principles. General understanding of server and application administration. Knowledge of identity and access management concepts, including Active Directory and Entra ID. Experience with on-premises and cloud-based file shares, Azure File Sync, and cloud services (Azure, AWS). Familiarity with virtual machines and how to access/interact with them. Scripting skills (PowerShell, Python, VBA) and SQL for data queries and automation. Familiarity with Regular Expressions for data pattern recognition and classification. Advanced Excel proficiency, including: Creating and customizing graphs and charts Using Power Query for data transformation Working with table objects and structured references Connecting to external data sources Handling Unicode data Creating and editing macros for automation Ability to work independently and manage tasks with minimal supervision. Strong written and verbal communication skills in English. Comfortable using generative AI tools to enhance productivity and problem-solving. Reliable and consistent in meeting deadlines and delivering high-quality work. Preferred Qualifications Experience working in a remote, cross-cultural team environment. Knowledge of data privacy regulations (GDPR, HIPAA, CCPA). Awareness of global and regional data formatting variations (date formats, numeric separators, character encoding). Understanding of data sovereignty laws and cross-border data handling implications. Familiarity with working in an FDA-regulated environment.
