Join our team for a hands-on opportunity to build real-world experience in Operational Excellence (OpEx) within a fast-paced medical technology environment. In this role, you will help identify improvement opportunities, support efficiency initiatives, and contribute to projects that make day-to-day operations more effective. This is an excellent opportunity to learn from experienced leaders, apply continuous improvement methods in practice, and make a visible impact while still completing your studies. This is an on-site student position based at our production site, with an expected presence of 2 to 3 days per week in the office and on the production floor. The role reports directly to the Production Floor Manager and works closely with operations and cross-functional partners. You will support improvement initiatives across manufacturing processes, labor efficiency, and standard work. You will also gain exposure to the Medtronic Performance System (MPS), Medtronic’s operational excellence framework used to drive continuous improvement, problem solving, and sustainable performance across the business. Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned: Support the Production Floor Manager in driving OpEx initiatives across the production floor Observe, map, and analyze manufacturing processes to identify opportunities to improve flow, productivity, and labor efficiency Use structured problem-solving methods such as A3, DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control), and Kaizen to support improvement projects Collect and analyze operational data to identify trends, losses, and opportunities for process optimization Help develop and improve standard work, visual management, and process documentation Partner with production, quality, and engineering teams to support implementation and follow-up of improvement actions Track project progress and summarize findings, recommendations, and results for site stakeholders Required Knowledge and Experience: Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field, 3rd or 4th year Strong interest in manufacturing, continuous improvement, and data-based problem solving Basic knowledge of OpEx tools and methods, including A3, DMAIC, and Kaizen Good analytical skills with the ability to organize data and draw practical conclusions Effective communication and collaboration skills for working with cross-functional teams Availability to work on site 2 to 3 days per week Experience with time studies, process mapping, labor analysis, Microsoft Excel, or data visualization tools would be helpful. Exposure to a manufacturing environment through coursework, projects, or previous internships would also be an advantage.
