Software Engineering Technical Leader
Cisco · Brisbane, Australia
Job description
Meet the team Do you love solving hard infrastructure problems while bringing people and teams together around a shared technical vision? The Deployment & Lifecycle Management organization at Splunk, part of Cisco, owns the full lifecycle of Splunk Cloud stacks: creating, configuring, deploying, and terminating the infrastructure that underpins our platform at global scale. We're actively modernizing our architecture to support cloud-native and AI-ready patterns that will define the next generation of Splunk Cloud. It's a great time to join us! Our engineering community is distributed across the US and Australia, and this role sits at the heart of that connection, reporting directly to the Director of Stack Lifecycle and building strong partnerships across both hubs. Your Impact This is a senior technical leadership role for someone who genuinely cares about untangling complex problems and helping colleagues do their best work. As the technical anchor for our orchestration layer and Control Plane workstreams based in Australia, we're looking for someone who can take platform challenges and shape them into clear, shared direction the whole team feels good about. In this role, we'll lean on you to lead major workstreams in our CO2 modularization roadmap, guide technical design for large-scale features from inception through production, and help us cultivate a culture of engineering excellence. Working closely with our US and ANZ engineers, this person will be a trusted voice the team turns to when the hard problems show up. We also hope this role will invest warmly in growing others: coaching senior engineers, deepening how we share knowledge, and bringing our technical story to partners across the organization. On the reliability front, we're thoughtfully improving our observability practices, refining our SLOs, and building more resilient production tooling every quarter. We'd love for the right person to help us shape that journey! Minimum Qualifications 10 years of related experience. Deep expertise in distributed systems, cloud-native infrastructure, or platform engineering Proven track record leading large-scale technical programs across distributed teams Warm, clear communicator, comfortable working across time zones and in async-heavy environments Hands-on experience with Kubernetes or container orchestration at production scale Preferred qualifications Experience with cloud stack lifecycle management, multi-cloud orchestration, or control plane architecture Familiarity with software engineering and reliability practices: SLOs, alerting, on-call tooling, and production observability History of driving platform modularization or large-scale architectural refactoring Track record of coaching senior engineers and shaping technical direction across an organization Background in SaaS or cloud-delivered product engineering Why Cisco?
