DESCRIPTION: Join our Experience Design team and help shape the next generation of scientific instruments through exceptional industrial design. As a Senior Industrial Designer, you will lead the design of innovative physical products that balance user needs, technical requirements, manufacturability, and brand identity. In this role, you will collaborate closely with user researchers, product managers, engineers, and cross-functional development teams to translate customer workflows into intuitive, functional, and compelling product experiences. You will drive projects from early discovery and concept development through detailed design, validation, and production, ensuring solutions are desirable, feasible, and scalable. You will leverage advanced industrial design methods to develop sketches, CAD models, renderings, prototypes, and design specifications while championing human-centered design principles and the Design System. As a senior member of the team, you will also mentor fellow designers, influence design strategy, and help establish experience standards that elevate Thermo Fisher Scientific's product portfolio worldwide. REQUIREMENTS: Advanced degree with 3+ years of experience, or Bachelor's degree with 5+ years of experience in Industrial Design, Product Design, or a related discipline. Demonstrated expertise in human-centered design methodologies and applying design thinking throughout the product development lifecycle. Advanced proficiency with industrial design and visualization tools, including SolidWorks, Creo, Rhino, KeyShot, Adobe Creative Suite, and digital sketching tools (e.g., Procreate). Strong portfolio demonstrating successful industrial design projects from concept through commercialization, including design rationale, ideation, CAD development, prototyping, and production implementation. Experience designing complex electro-mechanical products with an understanding of ergonomics, usability, manufacturability, and scalability. Expertise in CMF (Color, Material, and Finish) development and specification, with the ability to create cohesive product families that reinforce brand identity. Working knowledge of manufacturing processes including injection molding, sheet metal, castings, machining, additive manufacturing, and assembly methodologies. Proven ability to collaborate effectively with engineering, product management, user research, marketing, manufacturing, and external suppliers to deliver high-quality products. Strong sketching, visualization, CAD modeling, rendering, and physical prototyping capabilities to communicate design intent throughout development. Experience leading design workshops, facilitating cross-functional collaboration, and presenting design concepts and recommendations to technical and executive audiences. Demonstrated ability to lead complex product development efforts, influence design strategy, and mentor junior designers while fostering a collaborative team environment. Excellent written, verbal, and visual communication skills with the ability to articulate design decisions to diverse stakeholders. Ability to balance user needs, technical constraints, business objectives, and brand standards to deliver compelling product experiences.
