Job DescriptionGreen Days Essential Functions The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to: • Diagnoses and corrects mechanical malfunctions. • Performs training and mentoring of Setups and Technical Operators to build skills and abilities. • Monitors and improves machine uptime and throughput rates to improve plant financial performance. • Monitors and improves preventative maintenance on machines by working with production associates on skills and abilities. Identifies areas of system weaknesses and works through and with leadership on solutions. • Recommends changes to the preventive maintenance program to the Process Engineering Supervisor. • Performs major machine repair and overhaul as required, initiating purchase requisitions when outside repair is needed. • Advises Parts Crib Attendant of parts needed for immediate use or for stocking locations. • Manufactures and repairs parts as appropriate. • Works with Electrical Technicians if electrical modifications or programming changes would be beneficial. • Proposes design changes to leadership in the areas of equipment upgrades, problem elimination, quality improvements, and reduced costs. • Works with Engineering and Production Setups on equipment rebuild requirements prior to and during shutdown periods. This position is required to work during shutdown periods. • Works with Molding on maintenance of presses and auxiliary equipment. • Works with limited supervision and maintains an atmosphere of cooperation among and between shifts to facilitate plant goals. • Understands and monitors plant priorities and shifts resources as required. • Understands the master production schedule and assists facilitators in meeting schedule compliance goals through the movement of resources and shifting of priorities. • Provides leadership for production when facilitators are not available. Other Responsibilities • Complies with all local, state, federal, and BD safety regulations, policies, and procedures. • Complies with all local BD quality policies, procedures, and practices through consistent application of sound Quality Assurance principles. • Performs other job-related duties as assigned. • Observes all safety, environmental, and quality system standards. • All requirements are subject to possible modification to reasonably accommodate individuals with disabilities. Education, Experience, and Skills Required Education • At least one year of formal training in mechanical trades or equivalent related experience. Experience • Minimum of three years of mechanical technical experience. Physical Requirements – Level 4 • Heavy Work: Exerting 50 to 100 pounds occasionally, 25 to 50 pounds frequently, or 10 to 20 pounds constantly. • Physical demand requirements exceed those for Medium Work. Mental Requirements • Ability to read, write, and understand English. Equipment Use • Ability to operate a forklift, pallet truck, small hand tools, electronic equipment, and other necessary equipment to successfully complete assigned tasks. • Must be a licensed forklift operator. Working Conditions Environmental Conditions • Activities occur both inside and outside. Noise • Sufficient noise may require the employee to shout to be heard above ambient noise levels. Vibration • Exposure to oscillating movements of the extremities or entire body. Hazards • Exposure to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, scaffolding, elevated work areas, high heat, chemicals, and broken glass. Atmospheric Conditions • Exposure to fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, or poor ventilation that may affect the respiratory system or skin. Oils • Air and/or skin exposure to oils and other cutting fluids. Supervision • Reports directly to the Lead Facilitator and has a dotted-line reporting relationship to the Process Engineering Supervisor.
