Must be able to understand packaging test methods and developing test methods. May be able to design and execute new packaging materials and structures. Programs will range from development of new primary and secondary packaging testing concepts through optimization of existing packaging test methods for nutritional products. Effective ability to collaborate across divisional and regional boundaries is critical to be successful. This position functionally resides in the Global Packaging Operations group, reporting directly to the Packaging Technical Services Manager. The position will require the incumbent to travel domestically and internationally sometimes at short notice and for extended durations. This position involves cross functional collaboration with Packaging Operations, Labeling, Procurement, and Quality Assurance. What You'll Do: Identification and development of new packaging structures from concept through commercialization. Identify and develop new packaging test methods and execute validation protocols Conduct packaging test method transfer and implement at Abbott Nutrition manufacturing sites Identify and implement cost optimized opportunities with existing packaging. Provide technical expertise on a wide range of packaging issues. Provide detailed technical input & support to A&E organizations employed on major capital projects. Provide key engineering support in the construction, commissioning and start-up of new facilities and equipment. Support the expansion group in the development of the project scope, design and cost estimates for global expansion programs. Deliver capital project cost estimates and timeliness that are accurate to ensure projects can be executed on time and on budget. Where necessary manage capital & non-capital projects as required. What You'll Bring: Minimum of 1 years’ experience in technical package engineering position or related field. Bachelor of Science Degree in Packaging, Engineering or related technical field Thorough technical knowledge of a wide range of packaging materials, structures, and manufacturing processes. Experience in packaging test equipment and packaging software programs (ie. AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Cape Pack) Ability to prioritize and manage multiple global projects. Demonstrated leadership skills. Excellent communication skills. Ability to effectively interface with broad global cross functional teams. Demonstrated ability to make decisions independently. Effective problem solving skills. 20% travel, includes domestic and international travel. Primary Function: Primary Responsibilities: a) Execute package testing for both primary and secondary packaging that support R&D and Operations. b) Issue test reports based on the data collected during the testing process. c) Support instrument qualification, test method development, and test method validation. d) Identify and develop new packaging structures from concept through commercialization. e) Develop and produce packaging mock-up samples for design review. f) Support and lead package function and distribution testing in the Packaging Lab. g) Implement project work for Abbott sites and third-party co-packaging manufacturers. h) Identify and implement cost-optimized opportunities with existing packaging. i) Provide technical expertise on packaging issues. j) Provide detailed technical input and support to organizations employed on major capital projects. k) Provide technical input to manufacturing sites on overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) improvement solutions. Successful candidate must demonstrate the following technical and leadership skills: · Experience in packaging test equipment and packaging software programs (i.e., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Cape Pack) · Thorough technical knowledge of a wide range of packaging materials, structures, and printed material manufacturing processes. · Experience in resolving supply chain challenges. ISTA certification is a bonus. · Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects. · Demonstrated leadership skills. · Excellent communication skills. · Ability to effectively interface with broad global cross-functional teams. · Demonstrated ability to make decisions independently. · Effective critical thinking skills. · Ten percent travel. Bachelor of Science Degree in Packaging, Engineering, or related technical field and/or 1+ years packaging technical experience. The base pay for this position is $50,700.00 – $101,300.00In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
