Position Summary: The Sterile Product and Device Development team within the Drug Product Development team and greater Product Development and Supply organization supports the BMS pipeline to create patient centric products. We now have a vacancy for a Senior Engineer to join our team and contribute to our success in meeting the needs of our business and our patients. This is an important role in advancing modeling strategies and innovative methods generating valuable insights using internal and external data sources. In this role, you will provide technical leadership through mechanistic modeling, model based DOEs, and material science. With the modeling first mindset, the successful candidate will design and develop predictive models for device delivery systems, powder-, fluid-, & polymer-based systems and multiphase flows in drug product development and manufacturing. This work will advance the field of predictive design in the pharmaceutical industry as well as enhance the understanding of product development. The selected candidate will work in a fast-paced multidisciplinary environment as the competitive landscape and modeling strategies keep changing rapidly. Delivering on time, driving innovation, and fostering collaboration with stakeholders are key to this role. The Senior Engineer, Modeling and Digitization, Device and Packaging Development is an individual contributor responsible for the following Develop and lead modeling and digitization initiatives across device and combination product development and drug product development; including digital twins of products and processes, product and process modeling, mechanistic and multiphysics modeling. Design and execute model-based DOEs and simulations for device delivery systems and for powder-, fluid-, and polymer-based systems and multiphase flows, to predict performance and de-risk development decisions. Translate modeling and simulation outputs into design control deliverables; supporting design inputs/outputs, verification and validation, and risk management. Support design and development activities such as concept generation, CAD, prototyping, testing, and reporting. Partner with the modeling community across Global Product Development and Supply and with external partners/vendors to bring the right modeling technologies and capabilities into Sterile Product and Device Development and Drug Product Development. Analyze and present modeling insights and recommendations to program and leadership teams, and ensure compliance with company processes, procedures, and applicable standards. Qualifications: PhD in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline with 2-4 years of experience or MS with 4-6 years of experience in the Medical Device, Pharmaceutical, Biotechnology or other industry with an emphasis on product and process modeling. Research experience in the field of engineering and one or more computational modeling techniques (e.g., Bayesian models, finite element or discrete element modeling, computational fluid dynamics CFD, flowsheet modeling, and first-principles engineering models). Deep understanding of multi-physics interactions, design for manufacturing and assembly. Advanced knowledge of one or more modeling/simulation/CAD tools such as SolidWorks, ProE, Abaqus, HEEDS, COMSOL, Moldflow, Fluent etc. Ability to convert models into experiments, work autonomously and partner with the modelling community across Product Development. Ability to build and manage models to predict future outcomes using data that is often incomplete and/or imperfect and contained in disparate sources. Deep understanding of complex mechanical engineering design & simulation demonstrated by experience developing such products. Strong cross-functional leadership skills, with the ability to lead, influence, and align matrix teams without direct authority. Demonstrated ability to work as part of internal teams and also leverage external partners to bring the right technologies into products. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex technical information to a non-specialist audience. Detail oriented with strong technical writing and documentation skills to draft protocols, reports, test methods, procedures, work instructions. Ability to survey external competitive landscape, industry trends, and regulatory environment as it pertains to our areas of interest and the BMS portfolio. Experience with one or more data visualization tools (e.g. R, DASH, Spotfire, Tableau) and statistical tools and models (e.g. PCA, ANOVA, Minitab, JMP). Ability to perform in-depth data analysis and present results and conclusions to product development and leadership teams. Preferred/Desired skills: Experience working in a cloud environment and using cloud-based services is desirable. Proficient in fundamental engineering/physical concepts such as mass, momentum, and energy transport phenomena; and a mathematical ability to setup and solve linear, non-linear, and differential equations. Compensation Overview: New Brunswick - NJ - US: $109,570 - $132,767 The starting compensation range(s) for this role are listed above for a full-time employee (FTE) basis. Additional incentive cash and stock opportunities (based on eligibility) may be available. The starting pay rate takes into account characteristics of the job, such as required skills, where the job is performed, the employee’s work schedule, job-related knowledge, and experience.
