Your role and responsibilitiesIn this role, we are looking for an experienced Product Architect to join our Industrial Automation Digital Organization. You will play a strategic role in defining the technical vision, architecture, and technology roadmap for next-generation industrial software products built on Edge and Cloud platforms. You will collaborate with global engineering teams to deliver scalable, secure, and highly available SaaS and PaaS solutions while driving architecture governance and engineering excellence. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in cloud-native application architecture, distributed systems, platform engineering, cybersecurity, and modern AI-enabled software development. You will work closely with product management, platform engineering, software development, and global stakeholders to build innovative digital solutions for Industrial Automation. The work model for the role is: HybridYou will be mainly accountable for:Define and drive the long-term technical vision and architecture strategy for Edge and Cloud-based industrial software products. Design and deliver scalable, secure, and resilient SaaS and PaaS architectures for enterprise-grade applications. Own key product quality attributes including scalability, performance, high availability, observability, maintainability, and operational excellence. Establish and enforce architectural standards, engineering best practices, technology guidelines, and reusable design patterns across development teams. Collaborate with platform engineering teams to evaluate technologies and make strategic architectural decisions aligned with product roadmaps. Conduct architecture reviews and technical governance sessions with key stakeholders to ensure solution quality, consistency, and ecosystem alignment. Mentor and guide engineering teams by promoting architectural best practices and developing technical capabilities across the organization. Work closely with Product Management, customers, suppliers, and global engineering teams to align platform evolution with business objectives and future product capabilities. Plan and develop the architectural runway by identifying technical enablers that support upcoming business features and strategic initiatives. Create, maintain, and own product Threat Models, ensuring security is embedded throughout the software development lifecycle. Ensure compliance with ABB Product Security Assessment (PSA) and industry security standards. Optimize platforms to accelerate application development while enabling innovation, experimentation, and rapid solution delivery. Track, prioritize, and reduce technical debt while maintaining comprehensive documentation of architecture decisions, design patterns, and engineering standards. Evaluate and leverage modern AI technologies and AI-assisted engineering practices to improve software architecture, developer productivity, and engineering efficiency. Qualifications for the roleBachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related engineering discipline. 12+ years of experience in software architecture, platform engineering, and enterprise application development with demonstrated experience designing large-scale software products. Strong expertise in Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud-native application architecture. Experience with OpenShift, MicroShift, and ABB Edgenius platforms will be an added advantage. Hands-on experience with AI technologies including Large Language Models (LLMs), Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), Model Context Protocol (MCP), and modern AI application architectures. Experience with Vibe Coding, AI-assisted software development, and Specification-Driven Development (Spec-Driven Development) methodologies. Extensive experience designing and building SaaS applications on cloud platforms, preferably Microsoft Azure. Strong expertise in C# .NET Core, Microservices architecture, Kubernetes, Time-Series Databases, Relational Databases, and RESTful application development. Experience with modern frontend technologies including React and TypeScript is highly desirable. Strong experience with event-driven architecture and messaging technologies such as Kafka, MassTransit, or similar frameworks. Strong understanding of Agile software development methodologies, Scrum, Azure DevOps, GitHub, and modern DevOps practices. Exposure to Industrial Automation architectures, Industrial Communication Protocols, and standards such as IEC and NIST. Strong knowledge of cybersecurity principles, secure software architecture, authentication, authorization, cryptography, and security engineering. Familiarity with industry standards and compliance frameworks including OWASP, ISO 27001, NIST, GDPR, and ABB Product Security Assessment (PSA). Experience with Cybersecurity, IT/OT architectures, networking, and secure industrial systems. Strong understanding of software architecture principles, platform engineering, distributed systems, and enterprise product development. Passion for applying emerging technologies to Industrial Automation, Process Optimization, Asset Management, Sustainability, Digital Transformation, and Cybersecurity. Proven experience designing architecture for 3–5 enterprise software products from concept through delivery. Strong communication, stakeholder management, mentoring, and leadership skills with experience working in globally distributed engineering organizations. Exposure to Industrial Automation, Process Industries, Energy, or Digital Manufacturing domains will be an added advantage.
