Lead Expert AI Agentic Platforms Engineer
Roche · Warsaw
Job description
At Roche you can show up as yourself, embraced for the unique qualities you bring. Our culture encourages personal expression, open dialogue, and genuine connections, where you are valued, accepted and respected for who you are, allowing you to thrive both personally and professionally. This is how we aim to prevent, stop and cure diseases and ensure everyone has access to healthcare today and for generations to come. Join Roche, where every voice matters. The PositionIn this role, you will be a lead expert in the AI Platforms and Services Team, building and evolving Roche's internal AI Agentic Platform - a platform that enables teams to design, build, run, evaluate, and scale AI agents and agentic workflows across the enterprise. You will drive the architectural vision and technical strategy across the modern agentic AI technology stack, including agent orchestration, model integration, tool use, enterprise data access, retrieval-augmented generation, context engineering, agent memory, governance, observability, and feedback loops. As a hands-on technical leader, your work will ensure that AI agents are grounded in trusted enterprise context, seamlessly integrated with complex core systems, and operated in a highly secure, compliant, and scalable way across Roche globally. You will spearhead the design and core implementation of enterprise-grade AI powered workflows, advanced automation pipelines, and core platform capabilities that integrate large language models, enterprise data, APIs, and business applications. Your strategic delivery will empower developers, data scientists, and business teams to rapidly build AI-enabled solutions by providing them with robust, enterprise-ready platforms and engineering standards. A critical part of the role will be defining and co-authoring the reference architectures, reusable blueprints, core connectors, and advanced technical templates that accelerate platform adoption. You will not only set the technical guidelines for retrieval and agentic patterns but actively build the foundational codebase that teams will rely on. This is a high-impact, hands-on engineering leadership role for someone who thrives on solving the most complex integration challenges, architecting next-generation AI systems, and enabling engineering excellence across the enterprise through direct technical delivery, hands-on prototyping, and strategic guidance. Description of the area The AI Platforms and Services Team is responsible for building the foundational platforms, reusable services, and engineering capabilities that enable Roche teams to develop AI, GenAI, and agentic solutions at scale. We focus on creating secure, compliant, AI-builder-friendly platforms that simplify the use of large language models, enterprise data, workflow automation, retrieval-augmented generation, model context integration, AI orchestration, and agentic software development patterns. Our mission is to accelerate AI adoption across Roche by providing robust platform capabilities, reusable engineering patterns, and best practices that help teams move from experimentation to reliable business value. The person in this role will work in a modern Agentic AI platform environment that connects multiple layers of the enterprise AI stack, including models, tools, orchestration frameworks, data platforms, context services, governance capabilities, observability, and feedback loops. The AI Agentic Platform is expected to enable teams to build agents that are not only powered by LLMs, but also grounded in trusted enterprise context. This includes access to business data, semantic metadata, knowledge systems, retrieval services, user and workflow context, agent memory, enterprise tools, and policy-aware integrations. In a highly regulated healthcare environment, quality, security, compliance, observability, and responsible AI are essential. The team works closely with product owners, architects, AI engineers, data engineers, security experts, compliance teams, and business stakeholders to deliver platform capabilities that are technically strong, enterprise-ready, and easy to adopt. Job Responsibilities AI Agentic Platform Engineering Architect, scale, and evolve global platform capabilities that enable enterprise teams to design, run, monitor, and scale production-grade AI agents and multi-agent workflows. Lead the hands-on development of core APIs, enterprise SDKs, custom connectors, and developer infrastructure that form the foundation of Roche's internal AI ecosystem. Own and define the macro-platform architecture across orchestration, complex context engineering, secure data access, automated governance, distributed observability, and developer experience. Agentic Workflows and Context Engineering Design and build highly robust, stateful AI-powered workflows leveraging advanced graph-based framework architectures (e.g., LangGraph, AWS AgentCore, CrewAI) and custom-built orchestrators. Implement and standardize advanced agentic patterns including autonomous planning, complex error-recovery routing, multi-agent collaboration, dynamic short/long-term memory, and seamless human-in-the-loop patterns. Establish enterprise-wide standards for trusted grounding, implementing state-of-the-art advanced RAG pipelines, hybrid search, semantic caching, neural reranking, and unified Model Context Protocol (MCP) connectors. AI and Data Integration Engineer bulletproof integration architectures connecting autonomous agents with critical enterprise data sources, streaming data pipelines, secure document repositories, and global business applications. Collaborate on a par with Lead Data Engineers, Enterprise Architects, and Security/Compliance heads to guarantee that integration patterns are globally scalable, policy-aware, and built for reusability. Enforce and programmatically implement safe, fine-grained access control for structured/unstructured data, semantic metadata layers, and company knowledge lakes. Reusable Blueprints and Proofs of Value Author official corporate reference architectures, production-ready starter kits, and advanced blueprint repositories that drastically cut time-to-market for internal product teams. Deliver complex, high-impact Proof-of-Value (PoV) solutions side-by-side with business teams, tackling the hardest technical edge cases to prove platform viability. Distill PoV learnings directly back into the core platform code, converting tactical workarounds into scalable, automated platform patterns and comprehensive engineering guidance. Platform Enablement and Developer Experience Act as the primary technical authority, mentor, and advocate for internal developers, data scientists, and engineers utilizing the platform. Ruthlessly optimize the platform's developer experience (DX) by abstracting infrastructure complexity, eliminating onboarding friction, and engineering intuitive developer tools. Drive technical communities of practice, lead developer evangelism via advanced technical sessions, inner-source initiatives, framework deep-dives, and corporate technology demos. Quality, Security, Observability, and Continuous Improvement Enforce and model elite software engineering standards regarding comprehensive automated testing, robust CI/CD automation, meticulous code reviews, and long-term system maintainability. Architect secure-by-design, fully auditable, and responsible AI guardrails to monitor agent behavior, log physical execution, and malicious tool manipulation. Evaluate and benchmark emerging agentic AI technologies, continuously upgrading platform telemetry, tracing capabilities and automated feedback loops. Qualifications Education / Experience Hold a B.Sc., B.Eng., M.Sc., or equivalent degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field. Have 10+ years of hands-on software engineering experience, with a heavy emphasis on building cloud-native enterprise platforms, complex
