Abbott Ireland Diabetes Care Division Donegal The Abbott Diabetes Care division based in Donegal Town manufactures FreeStyle blood glucose test strips and FreeStyle Sensors for use in diabetes management. Among Abbott Diabetes Care leading brands are the FreeStyle Precision, FreeStyle Lite and FreeStyle Libre system. This is how you can make a difference at Abbott: We currently have an opportunity for an Occupational Health Nurse to join Abbott Diabetes Care Donegal site. The Occupational Health Nurse (OHN) contributes to employee health and wellbeing through the effective implementation of Occupational Health programmes, delivering exceptional care in an environment where quality, respect, caring, and compassion are central. The OHN works closely with the Environmental, Health & Safety Manager, wider management, and the Occupational Health Physician to establish a first-class Occupational Health service that meets organizational needs. Main Responsibilities: Clinical Services Provide on-site Occupational Health service including employee consultation, first aid and emergency treatment. Conduct pre-hire medical assessments to evaluate fitness for work and ensure OH compliance. Oversee medical surveillance program in line with Abbott and regulatory requirements. Liaise with Occupational Health Physician for internal / external medical assessments as required. Manage absenteeism reviews and timely referrals to the Occupational Health Physician, review recommendations with Managers and HR. Implement case management plans and interventions to achieve timely outcomes. Support occupational illness and injury management, including incident investigations. Support the on-site clinical testing by providing a phlebotomy service. Conduct Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with the site procedure. Oversee management of medical records in accordance with Abbott and regulatory requirements. Co-ordinate the First Aid and AED programme. Compliance & EHS Program Management Complete gap assessments of the OH program to ensure compliance with Abbott and regulatory requirements. Maintain and implement OH procedures and programs aligned with Abbott, OSHA, and HSA standards. Lead and support EHS projects using problem-solving tools to ensure legal compliance and business benefits. Monitor and manage OH KPIs; define annual objectives and provide periodic status updates. Contribute to OH risk assessments such as: ergonomic, biological, reproductive, chemical and make recommendations to control hazards. Support and lead internal assessments, audits, and inspections including third-party and corporate reviews. Employee Wellness & Engagement Advise employees on work-related issues and wellness initiatives. Organize and support health awareness programs including flu vaccinations, cancer prevention and mental health campaigns. Act as company representative for employee health and well-being initiatives. Ensure effective execution and sustainability of employee wellness programs through education and support. Communication & Leadership Advise senior leaders on strategic Occupational Health priorities, implement improvements that enhance employee wellbeing, and contribute to budget planning and resource allocation. Lead the execution of Occupational Health strategy by defining annual goals, implementing targeted initiatives, conducting assessments and driving continuous improvement. Collaborate with functional support teams providing advice on all elements of the OH management system. Correspond with third parties including corporate teams, contractors, and agencies for reporting and audits. Develop and deliver training sessions on topics such as industrial hygiene, ergonomics and biosafety. Qualifications Must be a Registered Nurse with up-to-date NMBI registration. Recognised Occupational Health qualification. At least 2 years’ experience in an Occupational Health setting. Job-Specific Competencies and Knowledge Familiar with Occupational Health practices, policies, and procedures, return to work, absence management and immunisations. Competent in the use of IT programmes and databases. Ability to analyse and report. Evidence of continuous professional development to maintain registration. Personal Competencies Must be a strong team worker and work collaboratively. Proactive, self-motivated, and assertive. Must be able to communicate in an effective manner with all staff levels within the organisation.
