Job Summary The Distinguished VLSI Design Engineer is a recognised technical leader responsible for driving breakthrough innovation, architectural direction, and technology strategy across multiple generations of semiconductor products. This role represents one of the highest levels of individual technical contribution within Sandisk and requires exceptional technical depth, broad organisational influence, and a proven record of delivering transformative business impact. The Distinguished Engineer shapes the future of NAND Flash memory products and platforms through pioneering solutions in VLSI architecture, circuit design, product execution, methodology development, and cross-functional technical leadership. The individual serves as a trusted technical authority, influencing business strategy, technology roadmaps, and engineering excellence across global teams. Key Responsibilities Technology and Architectural Leadership Define and drive long-term technology vision and VLSI architecture strategies aligned with Sandisk product roadmaps. Lead the development of next-generation NAND memory solutions, storage systems, and advanced semiconductor technologies. Identify and resolve complex technical challenges spanning architecture, design, verification, silicon validation, and productisation. Drive innovation that creates competitive differentiation in performance, power, density, reliability, cost, and manufacturability. Cross-Organisational Technical Influence Influence technical direction across multiple product lines, engineering organisations, and geographic locations. Lead critical technical reviews and executive-level decision-making forums. Build consensus among architecture, circuit design, verification, product engineering, firmware, device technology, system teams, and manufacturing organisations. Provide technical leadership during strategic planning and execution of major product initiatives. Innovation and Intellectual Property Generate and lead innovative concepts resulting in patents, trade secrets, publications, and differentiated product capabilities. Establish new design methodologies, development flows, and engineering best practices that improve quality, productivity, and scalability. Drive adoption of new technologies, tools, and design approaches across the organisation. Execution Excellence Lead resolution of critical product and silicon issues with significant business impact. Guide teams through complex development cycles from concept through volume production. Ensure predictable execution of strategic projects with emphasis on quality, schedule adherence, and customer success. Serve as a technical escalation point for the most challenging engineering issues. Talent Development and Mentorship Mentor senior engineers, staff engineers, principal engineers, and emerging technical leaders. Develop organisational technical capability by fostering innovation, knowledge sharing, and engineering excellence. Influence technical career development frameworks and succession planning. Industry Recognition Represent Sandisk in external technical communities, conferences, standards bodies, universities, and customer engagements. Establish a recognised reputation as a thought leader within the semiconductor industry. Contribute to strengthening Sandisk’s technical brand and engineering credibility. Education MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related discipline. Advanced specialisation in VLSI design, semiconductor technology, memory systems, or related fields preferred. Experience Typically 18+ years of semiconductor industry experience with significant technical leadership responsibilities. Demonstrated contributions to multiple successful product generations. Proven record of delivering innovations with measurable business impact.
