Job Description RTR Manager Cork Gilead Sciences, Inc. is a research-based biopharmaceutical company that discovers, develops and commercialises innovative medicines in areas of unmet medical need. General Job Requirements: Reporting to the RTR Director, Global Financial Solutions (GFS), this position will be responsible for General Ledger Accounting and the Indirect Tax Centralisation Model within the Gilead’s Global Financial Solutions team, based in Cork. Job duties include: Lead and manage a team responsible for the preparation and review of VAT, Intrastat and EC Sales List filings across multiple jurisdictions. Ensure the timely, accurate and complete preparation of all VAT compliance deliverables in accordance with local statutory filing requirements and internal deadlines. Perform detailed review and approval of VAT returns prepared by the team, ensuring appropriate supporting documentation, reconciliations and audit trails are maintained. Establish and maintain a robust control environment covering VAT compliance processes, ensuring adherence to company policies, control requirements and documentation standards. Review VAT reconciliations between VAT returns, ERP source reports, general ledger balances, Intrastat filings, EC Sales Lists and supporting schedules. Partner with Market Finance teams, Gilead Tax, STS, OTC, Supply Chain and external advisors to resolve VAT issues and ensure appropriate tax treatment of business transactions. Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on standardisation, automation, efficiency, scalability and enhancement of VAT compliance processes. Support the onboarding of additional entities into the centralised VAT operating model, including process assessments, transition planning, documentation and knowledge transfer. Monitor VAT legislative developments and consult with Gilead’s internal tax team on any potential impacts for entities supported. Develop, coach and mentor team members to build technical expertise, strengthen control awareness and support succession planning. Contribute to KPI development, operational reporting and service delivery metrics to support effective management of VAT operations. Maintains ledger integrity and ensures financial compliance with the worldwide Controller’s manual and to all applicable laws and regulations Ensure financial records are in compliance with GAAP. Consistently maintains appropriate internal controls and upholds company policies and procedures including Worldwide Controller’s manual. Manages, prepares, administers, and directs the accounting close and financial reporting process for the markets or activities within their responsibilities. Contribute to the preparation of monthly flux reporting packs. Responsibility for Accounting SOX Compliance and controls for activities within the GFS Responsible for recruitment, retention, motivation, performance management and development of staff. Ability to travel is necessary. Knowledge, experience, competencies: Qualified Chartered Accountant, Tax Professional or equivalent qualification (ACA, ACCA, CPA, CTA, AITI or equivalent). Strong indirect tax experience with significant exposure to VAT compliance and reporting within a multinational organisation, shared services environment or professional practice. Proven experience leading teams responsible for the preparation and review of VAT returns across multiple jurisdictions. Strong understanding of European VAT legislation, cross-border transactions, Intrastat, EC Sales Lists and indirect tax compliance requirements. Experience reviewing and approving VAT returns, VAT reconciliations and supporting compliance documentation. Demonstrated ability to identify and mitigate compliance risks through effective controls, governance and process oversight. The person we seek will ideally have RTR experience in a similar organization operating in several major countries in Europe, with exposure to the United States and in depth knowledge of general accounting policies and procedures in particular US GAAP as well as knowledge of local GAAP reporting. Capable of managing multiple priorities simultaneously, working under pressure and to meet strict reporting deadlines Demonstrates a strong skillset and genuine interest in digital finance and the application of automation, analytics, and AI to enhance RTR processes and controls. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills - the ability to work effectively across multiple functions and different cultures Self-starter and able to act on own initiative, with high levels of integrity, excellence and teamwork Detailed knowledge and experience of SOX Compliance Established experience preferably within a Multinational Company Ability to Interacts successfully with non-financial personnel as well as with internal and external auditors This role requires a flexible and adaptable individual, an individual who has strong peripheral vision to allow them to capture accounting and tax related matters in established markets and work closely with the multiple stakeholders to ensure compliance. Working knowledge and experience of Oracle / SAP or similar ERP product would be beneficial Proficiency with Microsoft tools (Excel, Outlook, and Word) required Proven analytical ability and creative problem- solving skills.
