Find out more: Our approach to R&D Job title: Scientist Location: Siena, Italy Employment type: Fixed-term (2 years), full time Closing date for applications: 12 August 2026 Position Summary You will design and run immunological studies that support discovery and mid-stage vaccine development for global health. You will work closely with colleagues across discovery, development and external partners. We value curiosity, clear scientific thinking and collaboration. Responsibilities This role will provide YOU the opportunity to lead key activities to progress YOUR career. These responsibilities include some of the following: - Design, plan and execute laboratory experiments to support vaccine development project from early discovery to proof of concept in humans. - Develop, optimise and validate immunological assays. - Collect, analyse and present scientific data clearly to project teams and stakeholders. - Work with cross-functional teams and external partners to meet project timelines and deliverables. - Maintain high standards for data integrity, documentation and laboratory safety. - Share improvements and new methods to support team learning and process modernisation. - Design and perform immunological studies in animals (including in vivo….). Why you? Basic Qualifications & Skills We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals: - Degree in Biology, Biotechnology, Microbiology or related life science field (Master’s preferred) plus 2 years of lab experience. - Hands-on laboratory experience in cell biology, immunoassays or related techniques. - Experience developing or running immunological assays and documenting / summarizing and presenting experimental results. - Practical knowledge of good laboratory practice, health and safety, and data integrity. - Experience working in cross-functional teams and communicating scientific information clearly. - Proficiency in English (written and spoken). Preferred Qualifications & Skills If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus: - PhD or higher degree in immunology or a relevant life science discipline. - Postdoctoral experience will be a plus. - Experience with assay automation, imaging, or bioanalytical instrumentation. Experience in immunological data analysis (cellular and humoral immunity) Experience in developing and applying AI/ML methods to immunological assays Experience with organoid models and/or in vivo models relevant to vaccine development Experience performing exploratory immunological assays using human samples - Experience in pharmaceutical or biotech industry settings. - Knowledge of process development concepts and Quality by Design principles. - Track record of contributing to scientific reports or peer-reviewed publications.
