Your role and responsibilitiesIn this role, you will lead the technical vision, architecture, and delivery of ABB's PKI-as-a-Service (PKIaaS) platform, enabling secure device identity and certificate lifecycle management for industrial automation solutions. You will act as the technical authority for the PKI platform while partnering with product management, software engineering, cybersecurity, DevOps, and cross-functional stakeholders to deliver secure, scalable, cloud-native certificate management services. You will drive architecture decisions, influence product strategy, mentor engineering teams, and ensure delivery of highly resilient cybersecurity solutions that support ABB's digital platform. The work model for the role is: Hybrid You will be mainly accountable for:Define and drive the technical roadmap, architecture, and engineering strategy for PKI-as-a-Service, certificate lifecycle management, and device identity solutions. Design and implement secure PKI architectures including certificate enrollment (SCEP, EST, REST APIs), TPM integration, Factory Proxy, secure provisioning workflows, and cloud-native security services. Lead architecture reviews and make key technical decisions ensuring scalability, security, maintainability, performance, and resilience across the platform. Translate business, customer, cybersecurity, and regulatory requirements into technical solutions while balancing customer value, engineering effort, quality, and delivery timelines. Establish engineering best practices including secure software development lifecycle (Secure SDLC), threat modeling, secure coding standards, code reviews, vulnerability management, and architecture governance. Collaborate with software engineering, DevOps, cybersecurity, quality engineering, UX, and product teams to deliver high-quality releases aligned with product roadmaps. Mentor senior and mid-level engineers through technical coaching, architecture guidance, design reviews, and knowledge sharing while continuously raising engineering excellence. Drive adoption of AI-enabled engineering practices and automation across CI/CD, testing, release management, and operational processes to improve engineering productivity. Ensure compliance with ABB engineering standards, cybersecurity policies, GDPR, industry regulations, and Free & Open Source Software (FOSS) compliance requirements while contributing to intellectual property development. Qualifications for the roleBachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Cybersecurity, or a related engineering discipline. 10+ years of experience in software engineering, cybersecurity, or platform engineering with at least 3 years leading architecture or serving as a Principal Engineer or Technical Lead. Deep expertise in Public Key Infrastructure (PKI), X.509 certificates, TLS, TCP/IP, certificate lifecycle management, and certificate-based authentication. Strong hands-on experience with device identity (IDevID/LDevID), secure IoT or Edge device onboarding, SCEP, EST, OpenSSL, REST-based certificate services, and public key cryptography. Extensive knowledge of Trusted Platform Module (TPM), secure key storage, secure boot, RSA key generation, digital signing, encryption/decryption, and hardware-backed cryptographic identity. Proven experience developing enterprise applications using technologies such as .NET Core, C#, Angular, REST APIs, Kubernetes, containers, and cloud-native architectures. Demonstrated ability to design and lead complex distributed software platforms involving multiple engineering teams and cross-functional stakeholders. Strong understanding of Secure SDLC, threat modeling, security architecture, vulnerability management, DevSecOps, and modern cloud security practices. Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and technical leadership skills with proven experience influencing engineering, product, and business teams. Experience mentoring engineers and driving engineering excellence across large software organizations. Experience with IEEE 802.1AR Secure Device Identity standards and automated certificate provisioning. Knowledge of Factory Proxy, manufacturing certificate provisioning, and industrial automation environments. Experience as a Technical Product Owner or Product Architect within cybersecurity or cloud platform organizations. Experience working with globally distributed engineering teams. Knowledge of IPTABLES, network security, and infrastructure security. Professional certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CCSP, or equivalent cybersecurity certifications are considered an advantage.
