You won't just be managing a catalog; you will be architecting an Active Metadata ecosystem. Leveraging the full power of the Databricks Lakehouse (Unity Catalog, Serverless, SQL Warehouses, Genie, etc.), you will define how metadata flows across our environment to drive automation, security, and effortless data discoverability. Your goal is to ensure that our global data estate is not just a repository, but a searchable, interconnected, and highly governed asset that empowers both human users and AI agents. The Role: In this Solution Architect position, you will own the end-to-end architecture for Data Discoverability and Metadata strategy. You will bridge the gap between high-level enterprise architecture and hands-on engineering, ensuring our platform remains scalable, secure, and at the forefront of the industry. Key Responsibilities: Architect the Metadata Strategy: Define and lead the evolution of our Active Metadata framework within our Data Lakehouse platform. Enhance Data Discoverability: Design and implement patterns that make data easily searchable and understandable across the enterprise, utilizing tools like Databricks Genie and AI-driven documentation. Standardize Data Governance: Establish best practices for Unity Catalog implementation, including tagging, lineage tracking, and row/column level security at a global scale. Ecosystem Integration: Architect how metadata integrates with external catalogs, BI tools, and downstream AI applications to create a unified data fabric. Drive Innovation: Evaluate and implement emerging Databricks features (Serverless, System Tables, Lakehouse Monitoring) to automate metadata collection and operational excellence. Technical Leadership: Act as a subject matter expert (SME) and mentor to engineering teams, providing architectural oversight and hands-on guidance on complex implementations. Job Qualifications Platform Expertise: Hands-on experience with the Databricks ecosystem. Proficiency in Unity Catalog is required. Metadata Mastery: Experience in designing metadata-driven architectures. Understanding of "Active Metadata" concepts (e.g., how metadata can trigger workflows, security policies, or automated quality checks). Architectural Experience: Previous experience as a Solution Architect or Data Engineer in an enterprise environment (Data Lake/Lakehouse). Technical Breadth: Strong understanding of SQL, Python, and Spark. Experience with API-based integrations for metadata exchange is a plus.
