Senior Manager QA (Systems)
AMD · Bangalore, India
Job description
ADVANCE YOUR CAREER. ADVANCE THE WORLD. At AMD, we believe technology can change lives for the better. It can heal us, entertain us, and make us more connected, productive, and understanding of the world around us. And we’re looking for talent who feel the same: people who want to leave the planet better than they found it, those who don’t shy away from humanity’s challenges but are determined to help solve them. AMD is powering the next generation of supercomputing, high-performance computing, cloud, and AI. Whether you’re designing next-gen processors, enabling AI breakthroughs, or creating go-to-market plans, every role at AMD contributes to something bigger — technology that moves the world forward. Senior Manager QA (Systems) THE ROLE: AMD's Predictive Memory Tiering business unit is looking for a QA Manager to own the functional and non-functional quality of our performance-critical memory-tiering software. You will be responsible for the success of a growing QA team and AMD's high-performance quality goals. The role begins with aggressively hiring — inheriting one QA engineer and adding three more in your first 90 days to establish a core team of four — and scaling the team ahead of engineering growth (targeting a 1:4–1:5 QA-to-developer ratio). You will take our existing test automation framework, eliminate architectural gaps, and implement robust quality processes across performance, durability, security, and user experience. This role suits a strategic quality leader passionate about building high-performing teams, designing progressive testing layers, establishing strong metrics, and championing modern, AI-augmented testing practices that focus on system behavior over syntactic overhead. THE PERSON: We are looking for a QA leader with proven experience building and motivating high-performing technical teams from the ground up, ideally in a fast-paced startup or high-velocity division of a larger technology company. The candidate will bring advanced Linux knowledge, intermediate Python scripting skills, and strong command of test automation strategy and modern DevOps tooling. The manager will partner effectively across Product, Development, and DevOps teams, anticipate customer workloads to prevent escaped defects, and lead with empathy toward both deeply technical and non-technical partners. The manager will make decisions autonomously, manage rapidly changing priorities, and consistently drive to make things better, faster, and more cost-effective. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Hire, manage, and motivate a world-class QA organization; inherit one engineer and hire three more within the first 90 days, then scale headcount ahead of engineering (1:4–1:5 ratio). Own the existing QA automation framework; define and continuously improve processes to eliminate gaps across performance, durability, security, and user experience. Partner with Product and Development to streamline releases; turn requirements and feature designs into comprehensive test plans. Define and implement progressive testing layers: pre-commit validation on pull requests, CI checks on merges, and end-to-end regression, performance, and durability runs before release. Anticipate customer workloads from intended functionality and field feedback; implement targeted coverage to prevent escaped defects. Drive testing efficiency to minimize release validation times; champion AI-augmented tools so the team focuses on system semantics over boilerplate. Partner with DevOps to ensure the QA framework coexists seamlessly with CI/CD pipelines at minimal overhead. Define, monitor, and report actionable quality metrics — product quality, performance, durability, regression rates, and defect escape ratios across internal testing and field deployment. REQUIREMENTS: 10+ years of QA leadership or engineering management, ideally in a fast-paced startup or high-velocity division of a larger company. Proven success hiring, building, and motivating high-performing technical teams from the ground up. Experience in leading QA organization in Large Enterprise class product development Advanced Linux knowledge and intermediate scripting skills, particularly Python. Strong familiarity with test automation strategy, BDD/Gherkin, and DevOps tools (GitHub, Ansible, Cucumber/Radish, Jira). Familiarity with testing or benchmarking enterprise-scale applications (databases such as Redis/MongoDB/Neo4j, analytics such as Spark, or AI/ML frameworks such as PyTorch) highly desirable. Ability to work independently, decide autonomously, and manage rapidly changing priorities. Drive to improve performance, accelerate test velocity, and reduce infrastructure costs. Excellent communication and empathy across technical and non-technical audiences, including clear technical test plans, defect reports, and executive quality summaries. Strong hands on knowledge in scripting, programing and creating new test cases/test plan Prudent Software QA process implementation Strong Domain knowledge in one of either Storage, Processor, Systems or Post Silicon System testing. ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field preferred, or equivalent. #LI-SK3 Benefits offered are described: AMD benefits at a glance .
