The Senior Director, Legal Operations plays a critical role in enabling the effectiveness and performance of the Law Group. This position is responsible for driving operational excellence across Legal, including process optimization, technology, outside counsel management, and data analytics, while also serving as Chief of Staff to the EVP, General Counsel. This individual will lead initiatives that enhance efficiency, scalability, and strategic execution of the Law Group, and support prioritization, coordination, and delivery of key leadership objectives. Responsibilities: Legal Operations Drive execution of Legal Operations strategy aligned to Law Group priorities Operates as an integrator across inter-functional workstreams to drive the execution of strategic priorities and serve as the bridge between strategy and execution. Identify and implement process improvements utilizing BD Excellence tools to enhance efficiency, reduce cycle times, and scale service delivery Lead legal technology initiatives (e.g., CLM, e-billing, matter management), including implementation and optimization Manage legal spend, budgeting, forecasting, and financial discipline Oversee outside counsel and vendor management, including engagement, performance tracking, and cost control Develop and maintain operational metrics, dashboards, and reporting to support decision-making and process improvements Facilitate best-practice sharing, driving efficiency and impact in the strong execution of BD Excellence tools and processes across the Law Group Chief of Staff – Office of the General Counsel Serve as a strategic partner to the EVP, General Counsel on priority initiatives and execution of the Law Group agenda Support prioritization and tracking of key projects, ensuring alignment across teams and timely execution Facilitate cross-functional alignment across Legal and with key enterprise stakeholders Provide analytical and strategic support on special projects as directed by the General Counsel Qualifications Experience 8–12 years of experience in legal operations, consulting, or business operations Experience supporting an in-house legal function strongly preferred Demonstrated experience in process improvement, technology implementation, outside counsel management and financial management Experience in organizations focused on continuous improvement Education Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree or relevant certifications preferred JD not required Skills Strong operational and strategic execution capabilities Experience with legal technology platforms and systems Data-driven mindset with ability to translate analytics into actionable insights Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills Strong communication and executive-level presence Leadership Profile Strategic and highly organized operator with attention to detail Ability to influence without authority in a matrixed environment Pragmatic, solutions-oriented, and execution-focused Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, evolving organization For certain roles at BD, employment is contingent upon the Company’s receipt of sufficient proof that you are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
