We are searching for the best talent for a Group Manager, Shoulder R&D to join our J&J Orthopaedics team (DePuy Synthes). This position is based in Raynham MA. Johnson & Johnson announced plans to separate our Orthopaedics business to establish a standalone orthopaedics company, operating as DePuy Synthes. The process of the planned separation is anticipated to be completed within 18 to 24 months, subject to legal requirements, including consultation with works councils and other employee representative bodies, as may be required, regulatory approvals and other customary conditions and approvals. Should you accept this position, it is anticipated that, following conclusion of the transaction, you would be an employee of DePuy Synthes and your employment would be governed by DePuy Synthes employment processes, programs, policies, and benefit plans. In that case, details of any planned changes would be provided to you by DePuy Synthes at an appropriate time and subject to any necessary consultation processes. Purpose: This is an exciting opportunity to join the Shoulder R&D team at a time of meaningful growth and innovation. The team is working on highly differentiated projects across the shoulder reconstruction continuum, with opportunities to influence implant design, instrumentation, digital and enabling technology integration, surgeon-facing workflows, and platform strategies that can shape the future of shoulder care. The Group Manager, Shoulder R&D will lead a high-performing engineering team focused on advancing differentiated shoulder reconstruction solutions for DePuy Synthes. This role is responsible for shaping and executing the technical strategy for a portfolio that includes shoulder implants, instruments, enabling technologies, and next-generation product platforms designed to improve surgeon experience and patient outcomes. The leader will guide managers and individual contributors in a matrixed environment; translate clinical, customer, and business needs into robust design requirements; and drive disciplined execution from concept development through design verification, validation, launch readiness, and commercialization. The position requires strong technical judgment, cross-functional influence, and the ability to develop talent while delivering complex shoulder programs with excellence, speed, and compliance. You will be responsible for: In accordance with all applicable federal, state and local laws/regulations and Corporate Johnson & Johnson, procedures and guidelines, this position: Lead and develop talent within the Shoulder R&D organization, building a strong technical culture grounded in innovation, accountability, inclusion, and career growth. Provide strategic and technical direction for shoulder implant, instrumentation, and enabling technology programs, ensuring alignment with clinical needs, surgeon insights, business priorities, and portfolio goals. Drive execution of differentiated product development projects from early concept and feasibility through design verification, validation, regulatory submission support, launch readiness, and lifecycle management. Partner closely with marketing, clinical affairs, regulatory affairs, quality, supply chain, manufacturing, professional education, and surgeon advisors to translate unmet needs into practical, scalable shoulder solutions. Ensure design decisions are grounded in sound engineering principles, user needs, risk management, design controls, manufacturability, reliability, cost, and long-term platform strategy. Use post-project learnings, competitive understanding, surgeon feedback, and product performance insights to strengthen development processes and identify future innovation opportunities in shoulder reconstruction. Qualifications:Required: Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering, Applied Science or other related discipline is required. Minimum of 8 years work experience is required. Minimum of 2 years management experience. Ability to prioritize and complete multiple projects which result in meeting departmental goals and objectives. Ability to build and manage departmental budgets within guidelines. Ability to apply project management skills which result in meeting departmental goals and objectives. Ability to manage and develop direct reports which result in improved employee performance/satisfaction. Experience working in a highly regulated industry with a demonstrated ability to apply regulations which result in meeting FDA/Company guidelines and policies. Ability to use broad range of knowledge of DePuy products to make decisions and recommendations. Ability to use written or oral format to effectively communicate critical design/project information to customers. Ability to build effective interdependent partnering relationships which result in meeting departmental/company goals and objectives. Under limited supervision, makes decisions affecting departmental budgets, assignment/alignment of resources, project prioritization, customer relations and employee development. Receives general guidance on work priority with substantial employee latitude. Impact of decisions made can have a moderate to significant impact to DePuy regarding costs, product launch delays and customer relations. Ability to appropriately communicate and manage confidential information such as trade secrets, product development initiatives, marketing plans, sales numbers, departmental budgets, employee performance evaluations, and employee compensation. Ability to effectively communicate with salesforce, surgeons, vendors, DePuy Management Board, and most DePuy internal departments. Up to 15% business travel may be required. The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation’s performance over a calendar/performance year.
