Technical Project Manager ABOUT THE ROLE The Project Manager - GenAI and Automation is a delivery-focused role within the Applied AI - AI Productivity and Custom GPT Solutions Practice. The role manages the end-to-end delivery of GenAI assistants, agents, Custom GPTs, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) solutions, AI-enabled applications, reusable AI capabilities, and intelligent automation initiatives. This project manager partners closely with product owners, architects, engineers, data and platform teams, business subject-matter experts, cybersecurity, privacy, responsible AI, enterprise architecture, DevOps, and external partners. The role is accountable for delivery planning, Agile execution, cross-team coordination, risk and dependency management, stakeholder communication, governance readiness, and operational handover across geographically distributed teams in Portugal, the United States, and India. RESPONSIBILITIES GenAI and Automation Delivery Management Plan and manage GenAI, AI, automation, and software initiatives from intake and discovery through design, build, evaluation, deployment, adoption, and operational handover. Develop and maintain integrated delivery plans covering scope, milestones, deliverables, resources, dependencies, release dates, acceptance criteria, and business outcomes. Coordinate delivery across product owners, GenAI architects, software engineers, data engineers, user-experience specialists, platform and DevOps teams, security partners, business SMEs, and vendors. Manage multiple concurrent initiatives and maintain clear visibility into priorities, progress, decisions, blockers, risks, capacity, and required leadership actions. Support roadmap development, intake triage, prioritization, release planning, and sequencing of reusable capabilities such as AI assistants, RAG components, MCP-based apps, integrations, Skills, and Workspace Agents. Ensure technical documentation, testing evidence, operating procedures, support models, training materials, and handover deliverables are completed before release. Agile and Scaled Agile Execution Lead Agile delivery activities, including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, backlog refinement, reviews and demonstrations, retrospectives, release planning, and continuous-improvement actions. Facilitate Scaled Agile activities such as program increment planning, cross-team dependency management, feature and epic tracking, system demonstrations, and planning across shared platform teams. Partner with product owners and technical leads to translate objectives into epics, features, user stories, acceptance criteria, and clear definitions of ready and done. Track delivery health using appropriate measures such as capacity, velocity, burnup or burndown, cycle time, predictability, release readiness, defects, and outcome-based metrics. Identify and remove delivery impediments, coordinate decisions across teams, and escalate issues early with clear options and recommendations. Promote disciplined engineering and delivery practices without adding unnecessary process or slowing experimentation and learning. Stakeholder, Risk, and Governance Management Serve as the central delivery contact for business sponsors, product owners, technical teams, platform owners, and senior stakeholders, providing concise and decision-oriented status communications. Maintain risks, assumptions, issues, dependencies, decisions, and action logs; drive timely ownership, resolution, and escalation. Coordinate architecture, cybersecurity, privacy, responsible AI, data-governance, legal, and regulatory reviews as required by the solution risk profile. Ensure project plans account for AI-specific quality and control activities, including evaluation, groundedness testing, access controls, human oversight, monitoring, operational readiness, and incident-response planning. Manage changes to scope, priority, schedule, and resources using transparent impact assessments and stakeholder alignment. Coordinate third-party vendors and delivery partners, including commitments, dependencies, deliverable quality, knowledge transfer, and adherence to Amgen standards. Global Team Coordination and Adoption Establish effective working agreements, communication rhythms, and handoff practices for teams distributed across Portugal, the United States, and India. Facilitate meetings across time zones and use clear asynchronous documentation so decisions, actions, and technical dependencies remain visible to all participants. Support launch, adoption, change-management, and enablement activities, including stakeholder briefings, demonstrations, office hours, communications, and feedback collection. Build trusted relationships across business and technology teams and create an inclusive delivery environment that supports accountability, collaboration, and shared outcomes. Continuously improve the team delivery model, templates, metrics, governance checkpoints, and reusable project-management practices. REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS Basic Qualifications Master's degree with 4 or more years of relevant experience in Project Management, Business Administration, Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; or Bachelor's degree with 6 or more years of relevant experience in Project Management, Business Administration, Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. Must-Have Skills 4 or more years of experience managing technology, software, data, automation, or digital-product initiatives, including experience delivering GenAI, AI/ML, intelligent automation, or similarly complex emerging-technology solutions. Demonstrated hands-on experience leading Agile product teams and facilitating Scrum and Scaled Agile practices, including backlog management, sprint execution, release planning, dependency management, and continuous improvement. Experience managing cross-functional and geographically distributed teams, with the flexibility to collaborate across Portugal, United States, and India time zones. Working technical understanding of GenAI delivery concepts, including LLM-powered assistants, RAG, agentic workflows, APIs and integrations, cloud platforms, AI evaluations, security controls, and production operations. Strong experience managing scope, schedules, resources, risks, dependencies, decisions, status reporting, release readiness, and operational handover across multiple concurrent workstreams. Experience using delivery and collaboration tools such as Jira, Confluence, Smartsheet, Microsoft Project or Planisware, Microsoft Teams, and SharePoint.
