Red Hat's Automotive Kernel Linux Engineering team is looking for a Software Engineer to join us on Red Hat's In-Vehicle Operating System deployments. In this role you will be part of a growing team focused on Linux kernel development for use in automotive, real-time and industrial applications, providing hardware enablement for new Arm platforms. What you will doWork with colleagues and platform vendors to determine kernel configuration Participate in the broader upstream Linux community Backport upstream fixes to the Red Hat's In-Vehicle Operating System releases Analyze how the kernel and other components are supporting Functional Safe best practices Create and maintain kernel packages Contribute new development work Collaborate in the automotive partner ecosystem Collaborate with the Engineering, Quality Engineering, Product Management, Documentation, and product build teams, as well as the open source community What you will doLinux Kernel development: hands-on experience modifying kernel code, running different kernel versions, backporting upstream patches, and following Git patch posting procedures. Background in Linux device driver development board bring-up, boot optimization, hardware descriptions (Device Tree/Advanced Configuration & Power Interface), and general embedded system ecosystems. Practical experience executing and triggering build pipelines, along with working knowledge of OS-level software packaging and distribution. Understanding of container runtimes and hands-on experience using containerization technologies (such as Podman) within a Linux environment.
