SENIOR STAFF POST SILICON VALIDATION APPS ENGINEER THE ROLE: AMD is looking for a highly experienced Senior Member of Technical Staff (SMTS) to join the Embedded x86 Applications Engineering organization and serve as a technical leader for customer enablement, post-silicon validation, system debug, platform qualification, and technical escalation management. This role serves as the senior technical bridge between customers, FAEs, Product Management, Program Management, Silicon Engineering, Platform Engineering, BIOS/Firmware Engineering, Validation, Quality, and Customer Support organizations. The SMTS Engineer will provide technical leadership across complex customer engagements, drive resolution of high-impact escalations, influence validation and debug methodologies, and help define support and qualification strategies across AMD Embedded x86 platforms. The role requires deep platform expertise, exceptional debugging skills, strong customer engagement capabilities, and the ability to influence cross-functional engineering organizations without direct authority. THE PERSON : The ideal candidate is a recognized technical leader with extensive post-silicon validation and platform debug experience, a strong customer-first mindset, and a proven track record of driving complex technical issues to closure. This person is comfortable operating in highly ambiguous environments, leading root-cause investigations, mentoring engineers, influencing engineering priorities, and representing AMD in strategic customer engagements. Strong executive-level and customer-facing communication skills. Deep technical expertise in platform validation and system architecture. Ability to influence technical direction across engineering organizations. Recognized problem solver for complex platform and interoperability issues. Strong leadership and mentoring capabilities. Comfortable interacting with customers, engineering directors, architects, validation leads, and executive stakeholders. Ability to balance customer urgency with engineering execution discipline. Demonstrated ownership mindset and accountability. A self-starter capable of independently driving highly complex technical investigations while providing technical leadership to broader validation and applications engineering teams. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Strategic Customer Technical Ownership Serve as the senior technical lead for customer escalations involving AMD Embedded x86 platforms. Act as the primary technical escalation point for high-priority and business-critical customer issues. Provide technical leadership across customer engagements, platform enablement activities, and production deployments. Influence customer adoption, platform readiness, and long-term customer success. Technical Leadership Provide technical leadership and mentoring to MTS engineers and validation teams. Drive best practices for validation, debugging, escalation management, and customer engagement. Lead cross-functional investigations involving multiple engineering organizations. Establish debug methodologies and root-cause frameworks for complex platform issues. Post Silicon Validation Leadership Define validation strategies for customer-reported issues. Lead validation activities for new platforms, features, and customer deployments. Drive interoperability, qualification, compatibility, and production-readiness efforts. Review and improve validation coverage based on field learnings and customer feedback. Advanced Platform Debug & Root Cause Analysis Lead investigations involving: PCIe Gen4/Gen5,DDR4/DDR5,Memory training and validation,USB,Networking,Storage and NVMe,Graphics and Display,RAS technologies,Platform security, Silicon-to-system interactions Escalation Management Lead engineering escalations for customer-critical issues. Partner with BIOS, Firmware, Silicon, Validation, Product, and Quality teams to drive issue resolution. Review and approve escalation strategies and debug plans. Ensure engineering teams receive complete technical analysis and reproduction data. Continuous Improvement & Innovation Drive automation initiatives for validation and debug workflows. Identify support-deflection opportunities through improved validation coverage and documentation. Influence platform quality improvements using customer and field feedback. Contribute to AMD technical strategies for product quality and customer success. PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: 13+ years of experience in Applications Engineering, Post Silicon Validation, Platform Validation, Product Validation, Embedded Systems, Customer Engineering, Silicon Validation, or related technical roles. Extensive hands-on experience debugging x86 or embedded platforms. Strong expertise in: Proven experience leading customer-facing technical engagements. Demonstrated ability to drive high-priority escalations across multiple engineering organizations. Strong platform-level debug skills spanning silicon, firmware, BIOS, operating systems, drivers, hardware, and validation domains. Experience with debug tools including protocol analyzers, logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, JTAG, firmware traces, and crash dump analysis. Strong Linux and Windows platform debugging expertise. Proficiency in Python, automation frameworks, and validation infrastructure development. Experience working with global engineering teams and executive stakeholders. Prior experience with AMD Embedded products, networking, industrial, storage, automotive, communications, AI, or compute platforms is preferred ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field is required. Master’s degree in a relevant engineering or computer science discipline is preferred. Equivalent industry experience in platform validation, customer engineering, embedded systems, or silicon validation may be considered where applicable.
