Job description
Sandisk understands how people and businesses consume data and we relentlessly innovate to deliver solutions that enable today’s needs and tomorrow’s next big ideas. With a rich history of groundbreaking innovations in Flash and advanced memory technologies, our solutions have become the beating heart of the digital world we’re living in and that we have the power to shape. Sandisk meets people and businesses at the intersection of their aspirations and the moment, enabling them to keep moving and pushing possibility forward. We do this through the balance of our powerhouse manufacturing capabilities and our industry-leading portfolio of products that are recognized globally for innovation, performance and quality. Sandisk has two facilities recognized by the World Economic Forum as part of the Global Lighthouse Network for advanced 4IR innovations. These facilities were also recognized as Sustainability Lighthouses for breakthroughs in efficient operations. With our global reach, we ensure the global supply chain has access to the Flash memory it needs to keep our world moving forward. Working as part of the ASIC Verification and Validation engineering team, you will create and maintain diagnostic, verification, HAL, and platform firmware running on various pre-silicon and post-silicon platforms for solid-state memory systems. Key aspects of the platform will be performance, scalability, reusability, and ease of use across multiple engineering functions. In this highly technical and hands-on role, essential duties and responsibilities include the following (other duties may be assigned): Design, develop, debug, and integrate HAL, diagnostic, and validation firmware for high-performance SSD controller SoCs across PCIe/NVMe and other host interface subsystems. Develop, validate, and maintain platform firmware on virtual platforms, RTL simulation, emulation systems, FPGA prototypes, and ASIC validation platforms to enable hardware verification and system bring-up. Design and implement reusable HAL APIs, drivers, and test infrastructure to validate SoC components including PCIe, DDR, NAND/FIM, DMA, cache, and backend subsystems. Evaluate hardware architectures and develop firmware solutions that optimize performance, power consumption, latency, and system reliability for target products. Perform root-cause analysis and debug complex hardware, firmware, and system-level issues through close collaboration with ASIC, architecture, firmware, and validation teams. Interact with ASIC Design, Architecture, Hardware, Product Validation, Firmware, HSI, and other cross-functional teams to drive platform readiness and successful product execution. Work closely with FPGA and emulation platform engineers to deliver prototype platforms that accelerate silicon validation, firmware development, and overall SSD product development. Your contributions will have an immediate impact on product quality, development efficiency, and time-to-market in our fast-paced SSD development environment. QUALIFICATIONS Education Requirements Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical & Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or a related technical field. 4+ years of experience in embedded firmware, SSD/storage systems, ASIC validation, or platform software development. Proven experience in firmware design, implementation, debugging, integration, and system bring-up. Required Skills / Experience Expert-level proficiency in C programming and embedded software development. 3+ years of experience in embedded firmware development, including debugging with JTAG-based debuggers and hardware-assisted debug tools. Strong understanding of RISC-based microprocessors, interrupt handling, task scheduling, performance optimization, and low-level system programming. Hands-on experience with ARM, ARC, RISC-V, or equivalent embedded processor architectures. Solid knowledge of bootloader, initialization flows, HAL (Hardware Abstraction Layer), and platform firmware architecture. Experience developing firmware across simulation, emulation, FPGA, and silicon environments. Demonstrated experience using structured software development methodologies, including requirements analysis, design documentation, source control, code reviews, and defect tracking systems. Strong debugging and root-cause analysis skills spanning hardware, firmware, and system-level issues. Excellent communication skills with the ability to effectively present and summarize complex technical challenges. Strong understanding of electronic and digital systems, including schematic review and software/hardware integration. Desired Skills / Experience Experience with SSD controllers, storage systems, PCIe, NVMe, NAND Flash, or memory subsystems. Knowledge of NAND memory technologies including Toggle, ONFI, SCA, or emerging Flash interfaces. Experience with ASIC verification, RTL simulation, FPGA prototyping, emulation, or post-silicon validation environments. Working knowledge of digital design, Verilog/SystemVerilog, and hardware verification concepts. Experience using protocol analyzers, logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, and other lab instruments for failure analysis and debugging. Experience developing diagnostic, test, and validation frameworks for complex SoCs and storage subsystems. Ability to effectively leverage AI-powered engineering tools, agentic workflows, and automation frameworks to improve firmware development, validation coverage, debugging efficiency, technical documentation, and overall engineering productivity. Other Skills Strong teamwork, collaboration, and leadership skills. Self-motivated with a passion for solving complex technical problems. Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving abilities with strong attention to detail. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, cross-functional engineering environment. Continuous learning mindset with an interest in emerging technologies, AI-assisted development, and engineering productivity improvements. LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read, write, and comprehend complex technical specifications, architecture documents, emails, and engineering reports in English. Ability to effectively communicate technical concepts in both one-on-one and group settings. Capable of presenting technical findings, debugging results, design reviews, and project status updates to engineering and management audiences.
