Materials Technology LeadershipServe as the primary materials engineering expert within Shanghai R&D. Define material selection strategy for polymers, elastomers, metals, coatings, adhesives, lubricants, and consumables. Establish and maintain material specifications, qualification standards, and approved material databases. Provide technical guidance to Mechanical Engineering teams on material performance and design decisions. Product Transfer & LocalizationLead materials assessment activities for NUS-to-Shanghai product transfers. Review critical materials used in transferred products and identify localization opportunities. Evaluate material equivalency and supplier qualification for localization projects. Assess technical risks associated with material substitutions and supply chain changes. Chemical Compatibility & ReliabilityLead chemical resistance verification for materials exposed to reagents, solvents, disinfectants, lubricants, compressor oils, refrigerants, biological samples, and laboratory environments. Develop and execute accelerated aging, corrosion, environmental, and materials reliability tests. Conduct root cause investigations for material-related failures such as cracking, swelling, embrittlement, corrosion, and degradation. Support DFMEA, DFR, Risk Management File activities, and design verification efforts. Cross-functional CollaborationPartner with Mechanical, Systems, Electrical, Quality, Regulatory, Operations, Strategic Sourcing, and Supplier Quality teams. Review supplier material certifications and technical documentation. Support supplier audits and technical assessments. Collaborate with global engineering teams to align materials strategies and best practices. Regulatory & ComplianceEnsure material compliance with applicable regulations and standards including:RoHS REACH Medical device regulatory requirements Environmental and sustainability requirements Support technical documentation and regulatory submissions. Technical CoachingCoach engineers on material selection, chemical compatibility assessment, and material failure analysis. Promote best practices for materials engineering across Shanghai R&D.
