Job description

Meet the Team Our team is at the forefront of engineering excellence, dedicated to advancing Cisco’s mission-critical Vulnerability Scanning and Attack Surface Management platforms. We operate at the intersection of innovation and security, building robust, scalable solutions that drive the stability and evolution of our enterprise infrastructure. By joining us, you will collaborate with a high-performing, cross-functional team committed to solving complex technical challenges and delivering impactful software that secures and optimizes our technology ecosystem. Your Impact We are seeking an experienced Software Engineering Architect to lead the design, implementation, and operation of scalable software solutions and automation workflows. This role combines hands-on development, solution architecture, infrastructure planning, production ownership, and technical leadership. The ideal candidate has strong experience with Golang and Python, along with practical knowledge of vulnerability-scanning tools and security automation. Key ResponsibilitiesLead requirement-gathering sessions with stakeholders and translate business needs into clearly defined technical scope and deliverables. Create system and feature architecture, including both high-level and low-level designs. Evaluate technical options and make architecture decisions based on scalability, security, reliability, maintainability, and operational cost. Design and implement production-quality software solutions using Golang, Python, and related technologies. Develop automation workflows that integrate with vulnerability-scanning tools, APIs, data sources, and operational systems. Define API contracts, data models, integration patterns, and reusable software components. Provide technical direction, design reviews, code reviews, and hands-on guidance to engineering teams. Establish development standards and promote secure coding, automated testing, observability, and maintainable engineering practices. Develop infrastructure and application deployment strategies across development, testing, staging, and production environments. Collaborate with platform, infrastructure, security, and operations teams to support reliable releases. Own or support production operations, including monitoring, incident response, troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and corrective actions. Provide Tier-2 support for complex application, integration, automation, and production issues. Identify operational bottlenecks and implement automation to improve efficiency, reliability, and response time. Produce and maintain architecture diagrams, technical specifications, runbooks, deployment documentation, and support procedures. Mentor engineers and help improve the team’s technical capabilities. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or equivalent practical experience. Significant experience in software engineering, with experience serving as a software architect, technical lead, or principal engineer. Strong hands-on programming experience with Golang. Strong hands-on programming experience with Python. Experience designing distributed, service-oriented, API-driven, or event-driven systems. Experience producing high-level and low-level technical designs. Experience developing automation workflows for vulnerability-scanning or security-management tools. Working knowledge of vulnerability-management concepts, including asset discovery, scan orchestration, findings ingestion, prioritization, remediation workflows, and reporting. Experience with REST APIs, authentication mechanisms, data integration, and asynchronous processing. Experience defining infrastructure deployment strategies using containers, cloud platforms, CI/CD pipelines, or infrastructure-as-code practices. Experience operating production systems and troubleshooting application, infrastructure, and integration failures. Understanding of secure software development, logging, monitoring, alerting, testing, and reliability practices. Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical decisions to engineering and non-technical stakeholders. Preferred Qualifications: Experience integrating platforms such as Tenable, Qualys, Rapid7, or comparable vulnerability-management tools. Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, and cloud infrastructure. Experience with message queues, workflow engines, relational databases, and NoSQL technologies. Familiarity with DevSecOps practices and security controls throughout the software development lifecycle. Experience designing highly available and fault-tolerant systems. Experience leading technical initiatives across multiple teams. Familiarity with service-level objectives, incident management, and operational readiness reviews. Why Cisco?
