Work Schedule Standard (Mon-Fri) Environmental Conditions Office Job Description Purpose: The Scientific Director of Epidemiology will oversee the team of Research Scientists/Research Associates and their activities including awarded projects and commercial activities. Essential Functions and Other Job Information: The Director will collaborate with colleagues in other functional areas including those in Biostats, Non-Interventional Studies, Scientific Management, and Business Operations teams. This person must have a successful track record of managing teams and overseeing the execution of multiple projects across both internal and external stakeholders. They must also have excellent client management and consulting skills as well as be a strong collaborator with internal stakeholders The Scientific Director will play the following roles: Effectively lead the Epidemiology team to ensure projects are scientifically rigorous, address the needs of the client, and are delivered on time and on budget Develop and implement business strategies to ensure implementing state of the art processes that improve commercial activities Assist teams in troubleshooting issues, resolving conflicts and reaching consensus with stakeholders. Provide epidemiologic leadership and training to efficiently produce the highest quality scientific products Coach and mentor the team as well as establish clear expectations with them regarding responsibilities, goals and behaviors and champion and model exceptional performance and talent management Develop and manage staff through hiring, managing performance, developing talent, providing clear expectations and holding them accountable Maintain close working relationships with cross functional colleagues within Go to market, Biostatistics, Non-Interventional Studies, Scientific Management, and Business Operations to support and enhance the successful execution of projects Represents the Epi Department at both internal leadership meetings and at external professional, scientific meetings and forums Directly engage with senior pharmaceutical executives in client management and consulting activities Education and Experience: Advanced degree (PhD, MD, MPH, or PharmD) in a scientific discipline. A clinical background should be supplemented with advanced quantitative training demonstrated by an MPH or MS in a relevant field Minimum of 12 years of experience in observational studies research with at least 5 years in a leadership or managerial role; with at least 5 years within a pharmaceutical or consulting company Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Broad experience in quantitative methods in health services research, with the focus on design of non-interventional studies and data analysis using observational retrospective and prospective data Very good understanding of relevant methodology and statistics Deep understanding of healthcare research principles, knowledge of practical research implementation Excellent written and oral communication skills Successful collaborator on cross-functional teams Why join us? This position may also be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and/or individual performance results in accordance with company policy.
