This position reports to: Program Manager Solid State Transformer __ Your role and responsibilities We are looking for a Power Systems Architect to join our Direct Current Data Center Incubator, playing a critical role in driving the transformational shift toward next-generation Direct current data center architectures. Working closely with strategic customers—especially hyperscalers—you will help shape the future of data center architectures by translating complex customer challenges into innovative, optimized electrical solutions. In this highly visible role, you will act as a trusted technical advisor across the full project lifecycle, combining deep technical expertise with strong consultative skills. You will influence market opportunities, support customer adoption, reduce churn, and enable flawless execution of pioneering Direct Current data center projects. Work model: hybrid (#LI hybrid) Key Responsibilities In collaboration with ABB data center segment and account managers partners closely with key customers—particularly hyperscalers—to support their transition from conventional AC data centers to advanced Direct Current data center architectures. Design and engineer end-to-end electrical power system solutions for data centers, delivering competitive, scalable, and future-ready system architectures. Design protection and control— Designing Direct Current ‑specific protection schemes and overall control schemes for the future architecture including sequence of operation, managing the load and active monitoring. In collaboration with ABB R&D teams, develop power system studies providing early insights into novel architectures and support customer projects. Collaborate with internal engineering and product teams to specify products and identify technology gaps. Support pilot projects, ensuring completeness of technical solution and documentation necessary for successful delivery of novel Direct Current data center solutions. Design and define test plans and test setups for the LVDC system, components and power converters to validate the proposed solutions. Contribute to technical thought leadership in emerging Direct Current power architectures and industry trends. Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline. Experience: 5+ years of experience in power system design, consulting, or solution architecture. Strong background in data center power systems, or exposure to Direct Current power solutions (experience in adjacent industries such as marine or industrial Direct Current systems is highly valued). Demonstrated track record of delivering complex, high-impact technical solutions. Knowledge of electrical power systems, including switchgear, transformers, protection, control systems. Ability to operate effectively in evolving technical environments. Willingness to travel internationally, particularly to the United States. Strong Cross-cultural awareness. Fluent English (mandatory).
