In this vital role you will embed complex, high-priority products and related product teams to accelerate Amgen’s adoption of the Digital Product Operating Model (DPOM), strengthen the product management capability, and help teams shift from output to outcome mindsets. Reporting to the Director, Product Management Catalysts, this individual contributor role will serve as a senior hands-on player-coach, partnering directly with Digital Product Managers, business leads, technology leads, data scientists, compliance and quality partners, adjacent product teams, product group leaders, and senior functional stakeholders. This role will primarily embed with complex, interdependent individual products, though may operate across multiple related product teams when dependencies, stakeholder complexity, or where product outcomes require it. The Associate Director will coach and upskill DPMs and cross-functional teams while helping them apply DPOM practices to real product work. When no DPM is assigned, this role may temporarily perform product management responsibilities directly, including shaping product direction, aligning senior stakeholders, defining outcomes, resolving trade-offs, and supporting roadmap and prioritization decisions. The Associate Director, Digital Product Management, Catalysts will help teams clarify high-priority business and user problems, shape product strategy, define measurable outcomes, improve roadmaps, establish OKRs and KPIs, support discovery, improve prioritization, manage cross-product dependencies, and connect delivery work to measurable value. This role will also capture learnings from embedded engagements and contribute insights back to the Product Management Hub to improve DPOM playbooks, tools, standards, Catalyst practices, and enterprise adoption approaches. Responsibilities: Embedded Product Leadership and Coaching • Embed with complex, high-priority products and related product teams to improve product management practices and accelerate DPOM adoption. • Serve as a senior hands-on player-coach to Digital Product Managers and cross-functional team members. • Coach DPMs on advanced product management skills, including complex problem framing, continuous discovery, product strategy, outcome-based roadmaps, OKRs, KPIs, investment trade-offs, stakeholder alignment, and value measurement. • When no DPM is assigned, temporarily perform product management responsibilities directly, including shaping product direction, aligning stakeholders, defining outcomes, and supporting roadmap, capacity, and prioritization decisions. • Coach teams to combine user insights, product data, business context, and experimentation to make evidence-based product decisions. • Help teams move from stakeholder-request and feature-based delivery toward empowered, outcome-driven product management. DPOM Adoption and Cross-Functional Team Enablement • Help cross-functional teams understand and apply DPOM practices in complex product environments. • Partner with business leads, technology leads, business analysts, design, data, compliance, quality, and adjacent product teams to strengthen product ways of working. • Help teams clarify roles, decision rights, operating rhythms, success measures, dependencies, and expectations within the Digital Product Operating Model. • Identify product management capability gaps, adoption barriers, and recurring anti-patterns across complex product environments. • Support teams in building durable product habits that continue after the Catalyst engagement ends. Product Strategy, Outcomes, and Prioritization • Connect enterprise and business unit strategy to product strategy, helping teams break silos and translate strategic objectives into product outcomes and investment decisions. • Help teams frame complex, high-priority user and business problems and connect product work to measurable outcomes. • Support development of product vision, strategy, roadmaps, OKRs, KPIs, investment recommendations, and value realization plans. • Guide teams in making trade-off recommendations based on user needs, business value, feasibility, risk, capacity, dependencies, and enterprise priorities. • Support discovery, validation, and learning practices that help teams make better product decisions in ambiguous environments. • Help teams improve roadmap quality by shifting from feature and output lists to problem, opportunity, and outcome-oriented roadmaps that reflect product strategy, capacity, dependencies, and measurable value. Cross-Product Dependencies and Stakeholder Influence • Identify and help resolve cross-product dependencies, sequencing challenges, and prioritization conflicts that affect product outcomes. • Influence business leads, technology leads, product group leaders, senior functional stakeholders, compliance partners, and adjacent product teams without formal authority. • Communicate clearly with team-level and senior stakeholders on product direction, adoption progress, trade-offs, risks, and decisions needed. • Help teams align near-term delivery decisions with longer-term product strategy and measurable outcomes. • Escalate major blockers, trade-offs, or alignment issues to the Director, Product Management Catalysts when needed. Catalyst Model Execution and Continuous Improvement • Execute the Catalyst engagement model, including product/team assessment, engagement planning, embedded coaching, adoption measurement, transition planning, and learning capture. • Contribute to refinement of the Catalyst model based on practical learnings from complex embedded engagements. • Define and track success measures for each engagement, including DPM capability growth, cross-functional team adoption, product maturity, product outcomes when directly accountable, and sustained DPOM adoption outcomes following Catalyst transition. • Surface insights, risks, and recommendations to the Director, Product Management Catalysts and Product Management Hub leadership. • Translate lessons from embedded work into reusable examples, practices, templates, and playbook improvements.
