Work Schedule Standard (Mon-Fri) Environmental Conditions Office Job Description Position Summary The Field Applications Scientist (FAS) – Purification is part of the BioProduction Group (BPG) and serves as a technical expert in downstream purification, with a primary focus on chromatography and purification resins. Working closely with biopharmaceutical customers, the FAS supports the evaluation, selection, and application of chromatography resins for existing purification processes and new molecule development. The role engages directly with scientists and engineers to understand their purification challenges, recommend appropriate solutions, and scientifically demonstrate and validate product performance through technical discussions, data analysis, and experimental evaluation. A key purpose of this role is to demonstrate the technical value and performance of our chromatography and resin portfolio and translate that technical value into customer adoption and business opportunities. The FAS works closely with Sales and other cross-functional teams, providing the scientific expertise and technical credibility required to support customer decision-making. The FAS also provides post-sales technical support, addresses product and application-related inquiries, troubleshoots technical issues, and delivers technical training to customers and internal teams. Key Responsibilities Serve as a subject matter expert in downstream purification, with a primary focus on chromatography processes and purification resins. Engage directly with customer scientists and engineers to understand existing purification processes, new molecule requirements, process challenges, and technical needs. Recommend appropriate chromatography resins and solutions based on customer process requirements and scientific understanding of the target molecule and purification process. Provide scientific and technical explanations of product characteristics, performance, and application benefits to demonstrate the value of our chromatography and resin portfolio. Design, support, and execute technical evaluations and experiments to validate product performance and demonstrate suitability for customer applications. Analyze and interpret experimental results and communicate technical conclusions and recommendations clearly to customers and internal stakeholders. Partner with Sales teams to support technical evaluations and customer decision-making, helping convert successful technical engagements into product adoption and commercial opportunities. Provide pre- and post-sales application support, including troubleshooting of chromatography processes, resin performance, and product-related technical issues. Respond to customer technical inquiries and work with relevant internal teams to resolve complex application or product performance issues. Develop and deliver technical presentations, seminars, and training programs for customers on chromatography, purification processes, resin technologies, and product applications. Provide technical training and application knowledge to Sales and other internal teams to strengthen organizational capability in chromatography and resin technologies. Capture customer feedback, unmet technical needs, competitive insights, and new application opportunities, and communicate them to Sales, Product Management, R&D, and other relevant teams. Maintain and continuously develop strong technical knowledge of chromatography principles, downstream purification processes, resin technologies, and the company's purification product portfolio. Qualifications Master's degree or higher in Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Life Sciences, or a related scientific or engineering discipline preferred. Minimum 4-7 years of hands-on experience as a scientist or engineer in biopharmaceutical downstream purification, with significant experience in chromatography process development and purification resins. Strong scientific and practical understanding of chromatography principles and resin technologies used in biopharmaceutical purification. Hands-on experience in chromatography process development, including resin selection and screening, process optimization, experimental design, data analysis, and troubleshooting. Ability to understand customer purification processes and molecule-specific challenges and translate them into appropriate chromatography and resin solutions. Strong scientific problem-solving skills with the ability to design technical approaches, interpret experimental results, and make data-driven recommendations. Strong customer-facing communication skills with the ability to discuss complex scientific and technical topics with scientists, engineers, and other technical stakeholders. Strong presentation and training skills, with the ability to communicate technical concepts effectively to both customers and internal teams. Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with Sales, Product Management, R&D, and regional/global technical teams. Customer-focused mindset with the ability to build trusted technical relationships and support long-term customer engagement. Fluent Korean and professional proficiency in English for technical discussions, presentations, meetings, and written communication. Willingness to travel regularly for customer visits, technical evaluations, training, and other field activities.
