Job Description SummaryThe Packaging Regulation, Sustainability & PPWR Program Leader is a senior individual contributor within GE HealthCare’s global Packaging Engineering function, responsible for leading packaging initiatives across product portfolios and regions. The role combines packaging design engineering, regulatory compliance, packaging sustainability, and global program leadership, with a key focus on driving implementation of the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) and readiness for emerging global packaging regulations. The individual will translate regulatory and sustainability requirements into practical engineering actions, advance sustainable packaging solutions, and influence cross-functional teams globally. Job DescriptionRoles and ResponsibilitiesLead the global Packaging Regulation, Sustainability, and PPWR (Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation) program, driving execution across product portfolios, functions, and regions. Lead future phases of PPWR implementation, including regulatory impact assessments, gap identification, compliance roadmaps, risk mitigation, and execution. Monitor emerging packaging regulations and translate requirements into actionable packaging engineering and business requirements. Provide hands-on packaging engineering expertise to design, evaluate, and improve packaging solutions, including support for selected NPI, productivity, and cost initiatives. Develop and drive sustainable packaging initiatives focused on material reduction, recyclability, recycled content, material simplification, and environmentally responsible alternatives. Evaluate opportunities to reduce or replace materials such as foam, plastics, and wood while maintaining packaging performance and product protection. Establish packaging Design-for-Sustainability principles, standards, and guidelines. Partner with Engineering, Manufacturing, Sourcing, Quality, Regulatory Affairs, Product Compliance, Sustainability, suppliers, and other global stakeholders to drive compliance and implementation. Define supplier packaging compliance and sustainability requirements and collaborate with suppliers to identify suitable packaging technologies and materials. Establish packaging material data, compliance tracking, reporting, governance, and key performance indicators. Drive harmonization and standardization of packaging materials and solutions where appropriate. Communicate program progress, regulatory risks, priorities, and mitigation plans to leadership while building organizational awareness of packaging regulations and sustainability requirements. Required QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering, or a related technical discipline with significant packaging experience. Minimum 10 years of relevant professional experience, including strong hands-on packaging engineering and design experience. Strong knowledge of packaging materials and technologies, including plastics, paper/fiber, corrugated materials, films, foams, wood, and protective packaging systems. Experience in packaging sustainability and packaging regulatory/compliance requirements. Demonstrated experience leading complex programs and influencing cross-functional stakeholders across regions. Experience partnering with Engineering, Manufacturing, Sourcing, Quality, Regulatory/Product Compliance, suppliers, and related functions. Strong program management, stakeholder management, communication, and influencing skills. Desired CharacteristicsDegree or advanced education specifically in Packaging Engineering, packaging sustainability, or a related discipline. Experience within the packaging industry, industrial packaging, specialized packaging solutions, or similarly complex packaging environments. Knowledge or experience with PPWR or comparable packaging regulatory frameworks. Experience leading sustainable packaging initiatives involving recyclability, material reduction, material substitution, or recycled content. Strong supplier collaboration, risk management, change leadership, and executive communication capabilities. Ability to operate independently as a senior technical expert while influencing teams without direct reporting authority.
