DESCRIPTION As an Electrical Engineer III at Thermo Fisher Scientific, you will play a key role in the development and implementation of new electrical and electronic solutions, working at the interface between R&D, Engineering, Manufacturing, and external suppliers. The position combines strong electrical engineering expertise with supplier collaboration and technology development to support new products, improve existing designs, and introduce innovative technologies into our products. You will work closely with external suppliers and technology partners to identify, evaluate, and develop new electrical and electronic solutions, components, subsystems, and technologies. You will provide engineering input into supplier selection and technical discussions, define and coordinate technical requirements, evaluate proposed solutions, and support their verification and implementation. In close cooperation with R&D and cross-functional engineering teams, you will contribute to product and technology development activities from early technical concepts through prototyping, testing, qualification, and implementation. You will investigate technical challenges, evaluate alternative design concepts, and propose solutions that improve product performance, reliability, manufacturability, quality, and cost. As an Electrical Engineer III, you will act as a technical interface between internal engineering teams and suppliers, translating product and system requirements into practical electrical engineering solutions. The role includes coordination of technical reviews, evaluation of supplier capabilities, support of prototype builds and testing, and resolution of complex technical issues. You will also support the transfer of newly developed electrical solutions into manufacturing, ensuring that new designs and technologies are robust, scalable, testable, and suitable for production. Your engineering expertise, technical curiosity, and ability to build effective relationships with internal and external partners will help drive innovation and strengthen our electrical engineering capabilities. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Collaborate with R&D, Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, and external suppliers on the development of new products, electrical components, subsystems, and technical solutions. Act as a key technical contact for suppliers and technology partners, coordinating electrical engineering requirements, technical discussions, design reviews, and development activities. Identify and evaluate new electrical and electronic technologies, components, suppliers, and design concepts with potential application in current and future products. Develop, review, and assess electrical engineering concepts and support design, prototyping, testing, verification, and qualification activities. Work with suppliers on custom electrical and electronic component and subsystem development, from initial requirements through technical validation and implementation. Review and contribute to electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, interfaces, component specifications, and other engineering documentation. Support component selection and evaluation with consideration for electrical performance, reliability, availability, lifecycle, manufacturability, compliance, and cost. Investigate complex electrical and system-level technical challenges and perform root cause analysis, troubleshooting, and technical risk assessment. Support product and design improvements focused on performance, reliability, robustness, manufacturability, quality, and cost. Support integration and testing of electrical and electronic subsystems within complex products and systems. Provide electrical engineering support for new product introduction and transfer of new technologies and designs into manufacturing. Coordinate and lead technical activities involving multiple internal and external stakeholders. Support technical evaluation of potential new suppliers, components, and technologies. Drive engineering projects from concept and feasibility assessment through verification, validation, and implementation. Ensure developed electrical solutions comply with applicable engineering, quality, regulatory, safety, EMC, and product requirements. Contribute to continuous improvement of electrical engineering methods, design practices, and collaboration between R&D, Operations, and the supplier network. REQUIREMENTS Advanced Degree plus 3 years of relevant engineering experience, or Bachelor's Degree plus 5 years of relevant engineering experience. Preferred Fields of Study: Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechatronics, or related technical field. Experience in electrical/electronic product development, R&D, supplier engineering, or technology development. Demonstrated experience working with external suppliers, engineering partners, component manufacturers, or technology vendors. Strong understanding of electrical and electronic systems, components, interfaces, and engineering principles. Experience with electrical design, design reviews, prototyping, testing, verification, qualification, and implementation of engineering solutions. Ability to read, understand, review, and contribute to electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, technical specifications, and engineering documentation. Experience with electrical and electronic component selection and evaluation. Knowledge of electrical testing, measurement equipment, and troubleshooting methodologies. Understanding of EMC/EMI, electrical safety, grounding, signal integrity, power distribution, and system integration principles. Experience with PCB-based electronics, sensors, actuators, power supplies, control electronics, communication interfaces, or similar technologies is beneficial. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with experience in root cause analysis and technical risk assessment. Ability to evaluate alternative technical concepts and make recommendations based on performance, reliability, risk, availability, cost, and manufacturability. Strong project management and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple technical activities simultaneously. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with suppliers, technical specialists, engineers, and cross-functional stakeholders. Ability to work effectively in an international and cross-functional environment. Experience in regulated industries and knowledge of relevant quality and regulatory requirements is beneficial. Knowledge of product lifecycle management, engineering change control, and technical documentation processes is beneficial. Experience with new product introduction and transfer of electrical designs into manufacturing is preferred. Strong technical curiosity and interest in new electrical and electronic technologies and innovative engineering solutions. Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and relevant electrical engineering/design software. Ability to travel up to 20% as needed, including visits to suppliers and technology partners.
