Your role and responsibilities Are you motivated by solving complex challenges, influencing major investment decisions, and helping customers navigate the energy transition? ABB's Energy Transition Studies team supports the development of innovative and sustainable solutions across all aspects of the future energy systems and electrification of industry, including offshore wind, renewable integration & energy storage, aqua, hydropower. hydrogen and Power-to-X. We work at the very front-end of project development, helping customers define, evaluate, and realize the technologies and systems that will shape tomorrow's energy landscape. As a Principal Technical Consultant, you will lead multidisciplinary study teams and act as a trusted advisor to customers developing large-scale energy projects. You will combine technical expertise, systems thinking, commercial insight, and leadership skills to deliver high-value studies ranging from feasibility assessments and concept development to FEED preparation and investment decision support. You will primarily support customers across Norway and Northern Europe, while also contributing to selected global projects. Working across engineering, business development, sales, technology development and project execution, you will play a key role in turning ambitious energy transition visions into executable solutions. Your key responsibilities include: Identifying customer challenges and opportunities and defining study scopes that create business value. Leading feasibility studies, concept evaluations and technical consulting assignments for complex energy transition projects. Developing and evaluating integrated technical solutions across electrical, automation, telecom, digital and energy systems domains. Supporting customers through critical decision-making processes from early-phase development through FEED and Final Investment Decision (FID). Acting as a trusted advisor on technologies central to the energy transition, including hydrogen production, Power-to-X, offshore wind, renewable integration, electrification and energy storage. Supporting ABB's sales and business development activities through customer engagement, technical presentations and proposal development. Collaborating closely with experts across ABB's global organization to leverage best-in-class competencies and technologies. Mentoring and developing junior consultants and engineers while fostering a culture of knowledge sharing and continuous improvement. Building and maintaining strong relationships with customers, partners and industry stakeholders. Monitoring market developments, emerging technologies and industry trends to identify new business opportunities. Qualifications for the role We recognize that strong candidates may bring different combinations of experience and expertise. We are particularly interested in candidates with several of the following qualifications: MSc degree in Engineering Experience from large industrial, energy or infrastructure projects, preferably covering multiple project phases from feasibility and concept development through execution. Demonstrated experience leading technical teams, multidisciplinary studies or engineering projects. Strong technical understanding within electrical, controls and/or systems engineering. Experience within energy transition sectors such as offshore wind, hydrogen, Power-to-X, renewable energy integration, battery energy storage systems, microgrids or electrification projects. Systems-thinking mindset and preferably familiarity with systems engineering methodologies and practices. Strong analytical capabilities with experience performing techno-economic assessments and evaluating alternative technical solutions. Commercial awareness and the ability to balance technical, economic and strategic considerations. Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex topics clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Strong relationship-building skills and the ability to engage effectively with customers and partners. Curiosity, initiative and an entrepreneurial mindset, combined with a passion for finding innovative solutions to complex challenges. A genuine interest in understanding how emerging technologies and changing market dynamics are transforming the global energy sector.
