This position reports to: Research Department Manager __ Your role and responsibilities As a Research Scientist, you will be working on sensing solutions for ABB’s next generation systems and products. We are looking for a team member with a proven research track record and the eagerness to transfer and apply world class academic research into an industrial environment. The work model for the role is: #LI-hybrid You will be mainly accountable for: Contributing to and leading research projects in the field of sensors and industrial sensing applications addressing the needs of our businesses, with applications including automation, process industries, and electrification. Together with multidisciplinary project teams, develop novel, high-value sensing products and solutions from the concept definition phase to the experimental verification. Evaluate new technologies and conduct technical surveys, generate project proposals with business impact and collaborate with researchers and engineers from other research centers, ABB business units, as well as from universities. Disseminate your results with scientific publications and internal technical reports, generate intellectual property. Qualifications for the role PhD university degree in electrical engineering, computer science, or related field Theoretical and practical knowledge in signal processing and data analytics (including ML/deep-learning-based) e.g. denoising, feature extraction, time-series analysis and anomaly detection, signal classification and pattern recognition Hands-on experience with test, design, simulation and validation of electronic systems, embedded electronics, (wireless-) connectivity, testing methodologies and data-driven validation, edge/embedded ML deployment Solid experience of getting ideas from concepts to prototypes Strong interest in sensing technologies and integration of sensors in systems. Context knowledge in electrification-related applications considered as a plus Proficiency in one or more programming languages (C/C++, Python, Matlab and modern ML frameworks -PyTorch-), and use of coding agents Excellent communication skills and team player attitude and excellent command (written & oral) of the English language More about us The ABB Research Center located in Baden-Dättwil, Switzerland, is where we investigate new technologies which support and drive the development of ABB’s next-generation products and solutions.
